Lightning VISION has won seven of 13 starts and clocked a blistering 29.72 at Wentworth Park on November 6 but is likely to miss the up-coming Melbourne Cup to be saved for the Group 1 Paws Of Thunder in January.
Lightning VISION has box two in Saturday night's opening event at Wentworth Park, a 520m fifth grade, and will be the punters' pick after winning a tougher fourth and fifth grade by six lengths at his most recent appearance at headquarters.
"If he went brilliantly on Saturday night I might be tempted to take to him to Melbourne but that is highly unlikely,'' trainer Neil Staines said.
"The Paws Of Thunder heats are on January 18 at Wentworth Park and that looks the right race to be aiming for at this stage, while the Golden Easter Egg is run there three months later.''
Lightning VISION looks Saturday night's stand-out wager as he began well and led at the first turn from box one at his latest Wenty outing, beating noted front-runners Third Exit and Low Flying Crow to the corner.
On Saturday night Lightning VISION will move from box one to box two but with wide runner Hello Mavis drawn in three, Staines' greyhound should only need to jump on terms with his rivals to be the pacemaker going into the first bend.
Tap Out Dusty has been placed just once in his past eight Wentworth Park starts but trainer Rod Metselaar believes the dog is ready to return to the winner's circle there in Saturday night's fifth event, a 520m fifth grade.
"He lost form for a while and nobody could pin-point what was wrong, with my veterinary surgeon unable to find anything miss with the dog,'' Meteselaar said.
"But I persevered with him and in the past few weeks Tap Out Dusty has come good again.
"He came out under the lids to lead all the way in 30.74 over 535m at Richmond two starts back and there was nothing wrong with his third placing behind Canya Star and Riccabono at that track last week.
"Tap Out Dusty missed the kick but went very fast around the field to lead at the first turn.
"Unfortunately Canya Star and Riccabono, who are both very strong at the end of their races, sat right behind him on the back straight.
"When I saw them there I knew Dusty was in trouble and sure enough, they ran him down.
"But considering he had to use up a lot of petrol to reach the lead after missing the kick, I was happy with his run.
"He pulled up well and is feeling really good for Saturday night.''
Zipping Byron has won four from eight provincial starts and looks ready to open his WP account in Saturday night's final event, a 520m fifth grade.
The Jason Magri has been placed in just one of three Wentworth Park races after being sent out at $2.20, $2.40 and $2.90, but is boxed to win on Saturday.
Zipping Byron jumped cleanly but lost all chance by veering off the track from box three when seventh to Tank's Rhino at Wentworth Park on November 6.
The dog has box seven on Saturday and has a great record from wide draws.
Zipping Byron is unbeaten in two starts from box seven and has won one of two appearances wearing the pink rug.
