Fire On Ice going nowhere

By Jeff Collerson

Fire Legend has started his Victorian career in sensational fashion but his litter sister Fire On Ice will continue to race in NSW following her brilliant all-the-way win at Gosford on Tuesday night.

Owner-breeder Mark Moroney sent Fire Legend to crack Victorian trainer Jason Thompson and the dog won each of his first two starts, at Shepparton and Geelong, in fast times.

"Fire On Ice though won't be going anywhere,'' Moroney, who trains the greyhound in the Hunter Valley, said.

"A great friend of mine Graham Blunt owns her and he, along with two other people, paid $1600 each towards my brood bitch Tick Away Fire's service fee to Fernando Bale.

"The agreement was that each of the trio who put in $1600 would receive one of Tick Away Fire's pups so when she was due to whelp to Fernando Bale I had my fingers crossed that she would have at least four youngsters.

"If she had only three babies I would have been left with none but I need not have worried because she produced a huge litter of nine.

"I am really pleased for Fire On Ice's owner Graham Blunt because he has bought a pup from just about every litter I have bred.

"One of them, Poison Ivory, was a top notcher I bred and trained for him and he won 14 races between 2004 and 2006.

"But Graham's subsequent purchases have been disappointing so he deserved to get one as smart as Fire On Ice.''

Ezy Mover might turn five next March but is going better than ever according to trainer Ian Darcey.

Ezy Mover came from third early to win an M3 masters' race over 388m at Gosford on Tuesday and will tackle a similar event at Maitland tomorrow (Thursday).

The Gosford win took Ezy Mover's record to 11 wins and 31 placings from 91 starts.

"He is an old marvel because he once smashed two toes and eight weeks back he tore the webbing on a foot,'' Darcey said.

"A few people advised me Ezy Mover would find the 388m at Gosford a bit short but I was fairly confident because he trialled a respectable 22.80 over 400m at The Gardens recently.

"I have been waiting to find a couple of M3 races for him because the open class Masters' events are often as tough to win as the top grades.''

Ezy Mover won at Gosford in a handy 22.54 but time honours for the meeting were with Wendy Brown's super short courser Harmat.

After being second early Harmat won comfortably, covering the 388m in 22.25sec.

Harmat will be chasing his 25th win in 62 starts when he tackles a 400m event at The Gardens on Saturday.
