Here comes the Victorians for the City MDC Heats

By Jeff Collerson

Weblec Ace was desperately unlucky when fourth at his only Wentworth Park start but is a better dog now and has a far more suitable draw in Saturday night's first City heat of the TAB Million Dollar Chase.

The Jeff Britton-trained Weblec Ace had box six when fourth in a heat of the group 1 Vic Peters Classic at his sole Wenty appearance on July 6 but after showing good early pace was badly hampered in attempting to cross to the rails.

"His box two draw on Saturday night will suit him a lot more,'' trainer Jeff Britton said.

"He is a bit older and a more experienced greyhound than he was in July and is probably a better dog.

"When he overcame box seven to win in a smart 29.47 at Sandown at his most recent start on September 26 it was a really good effort.

"As he crossed to the fence his legs got caught from behind by other dogs on the corner and I reckon that cost Weblec Ace a couple of lengths.

"So he almost certainly would have gone faster had he come from an inside box at Sandown.''

Another Victorian trainer pleased to see his dog drawn near the rails on Saturday night is Glenn Rounds, who has Waging War in box two in heat five of the Million Dollar Chase.

Waging War was a certainty beaten when fourth, from box eight, at Wentworth Park on September 25.

After missing the jump, Waging War sped around most of his rivals but as he looked set to cross to the lead on the first bend, he was skittled by wide runners.

"That interference definitely cost him his chance at Wentworth Park last time out,'' Rounds said.

"Waging War still can't afford to miss the kick like he did then but the inside draw should make all the difference to him.''

Rounds is not concerned about the extreme outside box eight draw his other Wentworth Park starter, Curt Lee, has in heat six of the Chase.

Curt Lee railed well in clocking a slick 29.84 in a solo 520m trial at WP on September 25 but has won from every box he has drawn.

When he led throughout to record fastest time of the night in a heat of the SA Derby at Angle Park on September 12, Curt Lee exited box six and had no trouble heading off his opponents.

"He jumped smartly in Adelaide so providing he gets away as cleanly as he normally does, box eight should not trouble him on Saturday night,'' Rounds said.

"Curt Lee is a really professional kind of greyhound so should be okay from the outside alley.''

Saturday night's stand out bet should be the Jason MACKAY-trained Get It Gizmo, who seems well placed in race nine, a 520m fifth grade.

A winner of five from 13 Victorian starts for owner Harry Manolitsis, Get It Gizmo took out the LADBROKES GARDENS regional final of the Million Dollar Chase on September 28 when having his second run for MACKAY.

After being third early, Get It Gizmo gave last year's Young Star Classic winner Federal Lilly a start and a four lengths' beating, stopping the clock after 515m in a sizzling 29.25sec.

Get It Gizmo has box four on Saturday but there is a lack of early speed among the dogs drawn closest to him, so he should be near the lead at the first turn.

Get It Gizmo powered to the finish in his LADBROKES GARDENS win so should only need a reasonably clear run to win comfortably.
