Chris happy to see red

Weemala John's three wins have been from outside draws but trainer Chris Little is happy to see his greyhound in box one in Saturday night's @wpgrey on twitter stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

Weemala John has won from boxes five, seven and eight, and while he has been beaten from two, three and four, he has not drawn the rails until Saturday night.

"When I trial him he always goes better from an inside box,'' trainer Chris Little said.

"His last start second to Ebby Infrared at Wentworth Park on September 11 was a really good effort considering all the trouble he found.

"Although Weemala John came from last in the early stages of that race, he is capable of beginning cleanly when he wants to.''

Little's greyhound deserves to break through for a city win as he has been runner-up in three of five WP appearances, and has had no luck in any of those defeats.

Weemala John is boxed to get a clear run to the first turn as Esther's Star, who has box two, usually runs in the middle of the track.

"Yes, I had a look at what Esther's Star does and think she might help Weemala John in the early stages,'' Little said.

Saturday's best bet should be the versatile Blue Moon Rising, who has box two in the 520m Ladbrokes Free-For-All.

The marvellously consistent Blue Moon Rising (pictured) has won six races over the Wentworth Park 720m trip but is equally at home over the 520m journey where he has been successful on 10 occasions.

He was a certainty beaten at his most recent outing, in a 520m Free-For-All at Wentworth Park on September 14, when beaten just under a length by his kennelmate Reallly Unreal.

After being last approaching the first turn, Blue Moon Rising was hampered at the first turn and badly checked in the middle stages before flashing home to beat all but the winner.

He had box two in that race and is well positioned in the same alley on Saturday night.

Inversion finished among the tail-enders in a heat of the TAB Million Dollar Chase at Dubbo last Sunday but trainer Michael Hardman believes punters should discard that run.

"It was a nightmare five hours trip because of all the kangaroos around, some even in the middle of the road,'' Hardman said.

"Inversion did not travel well and then in the race he missed the jump and was checked at the first turn.

"He pulled up well and there is nothing wrong with him.

"I think he will handle box seven as long as he can avoid Ancient Secret, who has box eight, at the start and in the run to the first turn.

"Ancient Secret has good early pace and is likely to want to rail so my dog needs to either begin fast and hold him out, or else drop in behind him and try and get around him on the back straight.''

Inversion has posted a sizzling 29.76 for Saturday's 520m trip and is clearly the fastest Wentworth Park greyhound in the fourth and fifth grade lineup.

Saturday's Wentworth Park meeting pays tribute to the late Duncan Stearn, a prolific greyhound racing journalist and author, with race seven, a 520m fourth grade, named in his honour.
