Just Terms look just too good

By Jeff Collerson

Greyhound racing's latest staying find Just Terms has a difficult draw but that is unlikely to spoil her flawless long-distance record at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.

Just Terms goes into the Ladbrokes Multimaker Series final as fastest qualifier after winning each of three staying races, over 729m at Dapto and 720m at Wentworth Park, in dashing style.

She has box five on Saturday night but the JODIE Lord-trained greyhound's tenacity and ability to weave her way through a field should enable her to win again.

In the 720m Multimaker heats on September 4, Just Terms drew box two but was checked at the start and relegated to third going through the catching pen.

After trailing Spring Brigade on the back straight, Just Terms cleverly switched to the outside of that greyhound when she was unable to find room on the rails.

Just Terms hit the front on the home turn and bolted away to win by seven lengths in 42.27sec, excellent time for a stayer just 27 months old.

The Adam Campton-trained Double Sweetness won the other heat of the Multimaker in 42.59, coming from fourth early and racing wide to take the lead at the top of the straight before winning by five lengths.

In Saturday's final Double Sweetness is well positioned out wide in box six but on times it seems only severe interference can bring about Just Terms' first defeat as a stayer.

Friend Of Man is the oldest dog in Saturday night's 520m Ladbrokes Multimaker Final and while he is not the quickest qualifier he will be hard to beat if he can repeat the sectional times posted in the heats.

Fastest of last Saturday night's six heat winners was Veloce Nero in 30.06, while Winnie Allen recorded 30.10, Athletic Lee won in 30.15, Friend Of Man 30.17, and Snazzy Ethics and Hooray Zipper clocking 30.35 and 30.42 respectively.

Veloce Nero should start favourite this week after drawing box two, the same position she had in her heat, but being a primarily a stayer, she is not as well suited by having seven rivals, as opposed to the five greyhounds who faced her in her heat.

While three finalists covered the 520m in faster times in the heats, none came even close to Friend Of Man's first and second splits of 5.39 and 13.80sec.

"In his eight previous Wenty wins I can't remember Friend Of Man running a 5.39 first split,'' trainer Kerry Drynan said.

"His second section has always been good and he should be hard to beat on Saturday night as long as he jumps as smartly as he did in his heat.

"Although Friend Of Man is a wide runner he always seems to begin better from box one, so he needs to come out on Saturday night.

"Friend Of Man can't match the sort of times Veloce Nero and some of his rivals on Saturday can clock for the 520m, so he needs to be in front at the first turn.''

Blinken Billy has been placed in three of his past four Wentworth Park starts and seems boxed to break through for his first city win since June in Saturday night's 520m Ladbrokes Cash out Stakes.

The Ruth King-trained greyhound had box seven when he won first up at Wentworth Park on April 3 in a smart 30.00 and cocked 30.30 winning there from box six on June 12.

The dog has been slightly disappointing in recent weeks but meets a "quiet'' field on Saturday and is drawn ideally in box eight.

"He likes it out there, he is definitely well boxed,'' trainer Ruth King said.

"Blinken Billy's problem is that while he has been beginning well enough, he can't seem to muster enough pace to hold his position going to the first turn.''

That's why box eight suits the dog on Saturday, as he should get the chance to sweep around his opponents in the early stages.
