Daillys target the Richmond MDC heats

By Michael Cowley

Victoria’s powerful Dailly kennel, have launched an assault on the Richmond heats of the TAB Million Dollar Chase, and will bring eight greyhounds across the border this Friday.

The Richmond club has drawn three heats of the TAB Million Dollar Chase, with the Daillys not likely to get things all their own way.

The Daillys, Andrea, her husband Tom and his twin brother George, will bring Dyna Unther, Lektra Spring, Reiko Ablett, Reiko Boss, Lektra Zephyr, Rockstar Beav, Jaro Bale, and Rockstar Fletch to Western Sydney on Friday night.

“Most of them haven’t been to Richmond, but they are dogs who are running around 500s at The Meadows and Sandown, and Richmond is a nice big, open, wide track, so I thought it would suit them,” Tom Dailly said on Tuesday.

Jaro Bale won at The Meadows on Saturday night quite easily and he goes quite well, Dyan Unther goes pretty well too, and Reiko Ablett ... actually they are all pretty handy dogs, it just depends on how they handle Richmond. We’ll wait and see how they go.”

Last year the Dailly kennel provided eight semi-finalists of the Million Dollar Chase. Only one advanced to the Grand Final, that being Dyna Harpa who finished unplaced in the $1 million to the winner event.

Whereas last year they qualified their runners though the Wentworth Park City Qualifiers, the changes to the format in 2019 has meant they have ventured to the regionals, and the kennel have already begun targeting places in the semis. On Monday at Bulli, they qualified exciting youngster Shima Shine and the reliable Dyna Patty for next Saturday’s Bulli Regional Final.

“It’s good money in the series, so there’s no point in them sitting at home,” Tom said. “This new format means we are better off heading to the other tracks, rather than sitting back hoping you win a race at Wenty as a last opportunity.

“You may as well give them the opportunity at the regional tracks especially as it’s first four in those finals that get through to the semis.”

Dailly said he was also going to bring Lucy’s Milo to Richmond, but after having to scratch him last week, he was unable to race at Richmond, so they will look for another venue to take him to qualify for the semi-finals.

The pick of the heats is the third, which will feature Jaro Bale – who won at The Meadows in 29.95s the best of the night last start – Darren Sultana’s Black Forge who had little luck in the Group 2 Black Top last start at LADBROKES GARDENS, and the Million Dollar Chase champion, Mystic Riot.

Mystic Riot – who won the MDC Grand Final from box seven last year - has come up with the one box, a draw she has never won from in four attempts. Black Forge will exit the two, with Jaro Bale the three.

In the opening heat, the Dailly trio - Dyna Unther, Lektra Spring, and Reiko Ablett – have drawn boxes one, two and three. Also in the heat are promising sprinters Tennessee Tiger and Knighthood,

Reiko Boss, Lektra Zephyr, and Rockstar Beav line up in heat two along with He’s All Shine, and Galaxy Banner, an impressive 29.28s winner at LADBROKES GARDENS last start.
