Knight's Page set to back up at Gosford

By Jeff Collerson

Knight’s Page pulled up well after his courageous win in Friday night's The Macca - the Black Top consolation final - and is raring to go in tomorrow night's Gosford heats of the TAB Million Dollar Chase.

Caretaker trainer Anne Foley, who has been caring for Knight's Page since the dog's regular trainer Gayle Masterson was hospitalised for a knee reconstruction, said: "I'm happy with his box eight draw at Gosford and the gap between racing at LADBROKES GARDENS on Friday to Gosford on Tuesday is a nice break.

"If Knight's Page does not qualify for the Million Dollar Chase at Gosford, we still have the option of taking him to the heats at LADBROKES GARDENS or Maitland, both tracks on which he has performed well in the past.

"That's why the concept this year is just fantastic.

"Knight's Page is a pleasure to train because he puts in 100 per cent every time he races, providing of course that he gets a little break in running.

"It's terrific to see the dog going so well for Gayle Masterson as we have been friends for 20 years.

"The Gardens on Friday was a credit to the track's curator because when I was unloading my dogs in the car park before the first race, I was up to my ankles in water.

"I can't recall racing dogs at a meeting where the rain was so heavy and constant, yet the track stood up amazingly well.

"I had a dog in the 12th race, a 272m event, and despite the torrential rain that had fallen all night, the winner clocked the smart time of 15.69.''

RECENTLY retired country supermarket manager Len Haaring had his most successful meeting since becoming a "full time'' greyhound trainer when he landed three races at Dubbo last Friday.

Haaring, from Cook's Gap, 30km north of MUDGEE, won with Bubba Beach and Arrogant Bobby over 400m and scored with Arrogant Stella in a 318m event.

Bubba Beach is owned by Haaring's brother Rudy, who lives at Tweed Heads, while Arrogant Stella and Arrogant Bobby were bred by their trainer.

Arrogant Bobby firmed in the betting from $23 to $5.60 but while Haaring conceded he had "a small bet'' on the greyhound, he explained that what appeared to be a big betting plunge originated through an error.

"Apparently a punter intended to put quite a bit of money on number four in a race at The Gardens but mistakenly his bet went onto number four, Arrogant Bobby, at Dubbo,'' Haaring said.

"After the punter realised what had happened he returned to the tote window and cancelled the bet, but by that time there had been an avalanche of people backing Arrogant Bobby, doe to his price dropping so rapidly.

"I retired last November from my position as a supermarket manager so can now concentrate on my team of 20 greyhounds, which include a promising unraced litter by Dyna Double One, which I am setting for next month's Coonamble carnival.''

Arrogant Bobby and Arrogant Stella were whelped by litter sisters Isabel Enlim and Most Arrogant respectively.

"Before Friday my previous winning trebles had been when Isabel Enlim, Most Arrogant and their littermates Pure Arrogance, Kayla's Tiger, Lenny Enlim and Stunning Lass were racing,'' Haaring said.

That litter began a remarkable run of success for Haaring, as between them they won 101 of 506 races.

Haaring's greyhounds have always been noted for their durability, and the success of Most Arrogant and Isabel Enlim as brood bitches proves that bitches which have done plenty of racing and still produce the goods in the breeding barn.

Most Arrogant won 27 of 113 races while Isabel Enlim was successful in 23 out of 115 appearances.
