Brilliant win from another for THAT litter

By Jeff Collerson

Inversion, a new addition to the kennels of trainer Michael Hardman, had fans agog when he posted a blistering best time of the night 29.76s at Wentworth Park on Saturday.

Inversion - another from that Collision x Solar Pak litter and a littermate of Feral Franky - went into the race with just one win from 17 starts, but was sent out a long odds-on favourite in what appeared to be a mediocre fifth grade.

The dog came out running to lead throughout, winning by eight lengths and running home in a slick 11.69.

Before the race Hardman said: "Inversion is a lazy sort of dog, he just won't work at all so it's hard to say how he will go tonight.

"If he misses the jump he might get back in the field and run about 30.80, but if he happens to nail the start he is capable of clocking 29.80 because I know how much ability he has .''

The consistent Ancient Secret finally broke through for another Wentworth Park win for his 83-year-old owner-trainer Paul Bigeni when he led throughout in 30.25 in a 520m fourth and fifth grade.

Ancient Secret went into the race with just four wins but two dozen placings from 55 Wentworth Park outings.

"He has been a good honest dog, he has certainly paid his way,'' Bigeni said later.

"I only want to train dogs who are smart enough to race at Wentworth Park because I'm too old now to be driving to country tracks.

"When I was younger I would race my dogs anywhere, even MUDGEE and SINGLETON, which was my favourite course.''

Black Forge, a finalist in this year's Ladbrokes Golden Easter Egg, made a welcome return to racing with an all-the-way win at WP on Saturday at his first start for over two months.

The Darren Sultana-trained speedster led throughout to win the 520m Free-For-All by four lengths from the strong finishing Nangar Kash, stopping the clock at 29.99s.

Training honours for the night were with the in-form Jodie Lord, who won with Pro Bono and Cawbourne Marty.

Pro Bono led all the way to score his first Wentworth Park win after being placed in four of five previous outings at headquarters.

He covered the 520m in 30.25 but Cawbourne Marty powered home to win a fourth grade from kennelmate Show Business in a slick 29.95s.

Saturday night's 720m event was taken out by Blazing Cartier, who notched her third 720m win in five Wentworth Park outings when she ran down Sunlit Conswala in 42.65.

After the race owner-trainer Tom Rees said: "Blazing Cartier is being transferred to Melbourne trainer Robbie Britton on Monday.''

Britton trains Australia's best stayer Tornado Tears.

And Blabba Mouth overcame an unsuitable box eight draw and two checks to win Saturday's Masters race, notching his 13th Wentworth Park win and taking his earnings to $102,425 for owner-trainer Cheryl Murray.

Not bad considering Blabba Mouth, who turned five in June, was again the oldest runner in the veterans' race.
