Flying Bazza was sent out a red hot $1.65 favourite when beaten a head at Wentworth Park last Saturday night but a far better draw in an easier race makes the Jason Mackay-trained greyhound look a stand-out bet there tonight.
Flying Bazza has box three in heat four of the Ladbrokes Cash Out Stakes, a 520m fifth grade, and should have little trouble taking his tally to five wins and four placings from 10 starts.
Last Saturday Flying Bazza bungled the start from box eight but after zooming into third position on the back straight, collided with the speedy Typhoon To Excel, who was on his left and positioned on the rails.
They hampered each other severely and while that was happening the tearaway leader Wynburn Lily established a winning break.
Flying Bazza rattled home to just miss first prize in a slick 29.92sec.
Following the race his trainer Jason Mackay said: "I expected Flying Bazza to run in a straight line from the boxes to the first turn but he was inclined to go to the fence.
"After watching that I'm convinced Flying Bazza is better from an inside box.''
Wynburn Lily, who posted brilliant sectional times of 5.40 and 13.93 in her all-the-way win last Saturday, could upset favourite Princess Riot in tonight's first heat of the Ladbrokes Cash Out.
When Princess Riot led all the way at Wentworth Park on July 17 she posted initial spits of 5.40 and 13.79 before covering the 520m in a fast 29.87sec.
But tonight Wynburn Lily has box two so has the inside advantage over Princess Riot, who has drawn box three.
After last Saturday's race Wynburn Lily's trainer Andy Lord disclosed she had not previously seen the WP circuit, so there is a real prospect of her improving on her already slick time last Saturday.
Winsome Mia has missed a place from wide boxes at her past two Wentworth Park appearances but box two in tonight's wentworthpark.com.au Stakes, 280m, could put her back into the winner's circle.
Winsome Mia drew box one when she recorded a slick 16.18sec winning over 280m at WP on July 17 and meets similar fifth grade opposition tonight.
"Draw near the rails is absolutely where Winsome Mia wants to be,'' Ken Wright, whose wife Mary trains the greyhound, said.
"Winsome Mia entered our kennels from those of leading trainer John Finn a few months back and she has done every thing that John ad his wife Minnie assured us she would do.
"She has been a great acquisition but she does need to be boxed near the rails.''
Box one can often "drag'' a slow beginner out on terms with its rivals and trainer Tim Caines will be hoping that is the case with his talented three-year-old Manooka in tonight's third heat of the Ladbrokes Cash Out.
Manooka has won six of 16 provincial starts and has been placed twice in four Wentworth Park outings, the latest being a fast finishing third to Black Maxie and Pop's Paradise last Saturday.
A former New Zealander, Manooka recorded his quickest Wentworth Park figures of 30.24 in finishing third last Saturday but Caines concedes the dog needs to jump better.
"Manooka is a funny dog because while he rails on the straights he wants to get wide on the bends,'' Caines said.
"He is not a good beginner and that has been his problem at Wenty.''
Manooka should relish tonight's small field of six as he tends to get back in his races.
Cawbourne Terry, who has box three, is likely to start favourite on the strength of his all-the-way win in 29.98 at his WP debut last Saturday.
But while Cawbourne Terry had box one in that race, he has box three tonight and must contend with the speedy Sunset Sporty, a slick beginner, on his left in box two.
