Flying Finn chasing a quintet at Wentworth Park

By Jeff Collerson

John Finn, who holds a commanding lead in this year's Wentworth Park trainers' premiership, looks certain to dominate Saturday night's meeting with five genuine winning chances.

His starters are Peter Mosman Opal finalist Really Unreal, who has box eight in race one, Blue Summer Sky (box two, race four), Group 1 winning stayers Veloce Nero (box three, race five), and Blue Moon Rising (box two, race eight) and Making A Memory (box seven, race 10).

Finn's wife Minnie said only Making A Memory is not suitably drawn, commenting: "She would be better from an inside alley.

"But Making A Memory does have speed and looks to be in a 'winnable' race.

"Really Unreal is perfectly positioned in box eight because that is definitely where she wants to be.

"Blue Summer Sky looks hard to beat because there are two 720 metre races programmed for Saturday night and he seems to have landed in the right one.

"Veloce Nero (pictured) and Blue Moon Rising are stayers and are being set for next month's National Distance Championship series but with no long-distance events available for them this week John put them in 520m races.

"We have kept them nice and fresh since their most recent runs so they should sprint okay, especially Blue Moon Rising who is particularly well drawn.

"The small field of six is in his favour too.

"We did not enter Poco Dorado, their sister, because she is a dyed-in-the-wool stayer now who does not sprint as well as Blue Moon Rising and Veloce Nero.''

Really Unreal's toughest opponent in Saturday's opening race could be short course sensation Friskey, who is chasing her 32nd win in 49 outings.

Friskey has box one and is undefeated in four appearances wearing the scarlet jacket.

She is in the best form of her career and led throughout over 365m at Nowra on Monday in 20.48sec, just .24sec outside the course record figures established in May, 2009 by Hesa Felon.

Friskey has not been tested over the 520m trip at Wentworth Park but exactly 12 months ago she won successive races over 515m at LADBROKES GARDENS, recording slick times of 29.75 and 29.76sec.

"Nine times out of 10 Friskey comes out running, especially from box one,'' trainer Patrick Mulrine said.

"She turns four in November but has not had a lot of racing because she comes in season quite a lot.

"Friskey is going extra well now and providing the track is dry and fast on Saturday night, she should give a good account of herself.

"I just hope Really Unreal is not sitting right behind her when they go down the back straight because if that happened Friskey would probably get run down.''

Blue Moon Rising's race should develop into a match between that greyhound and dashing front-runner Zombie, one of the fastest beginners in training.

Zombie has had four wins and 16 placings from 34 WP starts and has chased home some of Australia's best sprinters.

She has box seven on Saturday but has won four of nine starts wearing the black rug, so the wide draw should not worry her.

But the Allan Manwaring-trained bitch will need to establish a big early lead over Blue Moon Rising, a noted powerful finisher at the end of 520m, if she is to notch her fifth Wenty success.
