On times Good Odds Buddy has "plenty'' on his rivals in Wednesday night's Xmas In July Stakes at Wentworth Park, and from box one, with a wide runner drawn in two, appeals as the meeting's stand-out bet.
The Frank Hurst-trained greyhound has clocked 29.55s for the 520m Wentworth Park trip so has .27s on his closest rival, Drink Schooners, which is the equivalent of almost four lengths.
Good Odds Buddy is so talented he can win from any box but the rails is perfect as wide running Timeless Moment, in box two, is set to give him a clear run in the early stages.
"Good Odds Buddy got knocked out of the race at the first turn in his heat of the Vic Peters Classic at Wentworth Park last Saturday but pulled up fine,'' trainer Frank Hurst said.
"I nominated him for the meeting because I did not want him to clash with his brother Good Odds Harada at Wenty on Saturday.''
Mark Bell, who trained champion Go Wild Teddy and 2001 National Derby winner Mean Bean, has a high opinion of his lightly raced youngster Prince Planet, who makes his WP debut from box eight in the Go The Blues Stakes.
"Prince Planet rails so would be better suited drawn near the fence but he should run straight from the boxes to the first turn,'' Bell said.
"I like this dog because he has good early speed and he has improved in two trials I have given him over 520m at Wenty.
"In his first trial he clocked 30.30 but last Tuesday he recorded 30.10, the best time of the night, and posted handy first and third splits of 5.50 and 18.10.''
Captain Comet finished down the course at his sole Wentworth Park outing but punters should see a vastly improved greyhound exiting box one in the Ladbrokes Odds Boost Stakes, 520m.
"His only run at Wenty was over three months ago and he is a lot better dog now,'' trainer Michael Ivers said.
"Captain Comet is ideally positioned in box one and should only need to jump cleanly to be hard to beat.''
Following his unplaced run on debut at Wentworth Park in early April, Captain Comet has been most consistent, notching four wins and six placings from 10 provincial starts.
His most recent form has been exemplary as he has registered three wins and two seconds from his past five outings.
The in-form Andy and JODIE Lord kennel has two strong chances in the Duke's Ladbrokes Previews Stakes, 520m, the first leg of the quaddie.
Andy trains Second Exit, who has box two, while wife JODIE prepares Electric Silk, box seven.
"They are both well drawn but Second Exit is a bit quicker than Electric Silk,'' Andy Lord said.
"I also have New Note having his first look at Wentworth Park in the Go The Blues Stakes and while this is a strong fifth grade, this dog is particularly strong at the finish.
"Being first-up at Wenty won't worry him and if New Note happens to be within three lengths of the leader coming to the home turn he will be awfully hard to hold off at the finish.''
Best value should be Melbourne's Mepunga Maggie, who has box three in the 520m Naidoc Week Stakes, a moderate fifth grade event.
Trainer Jeff Britton thought enough of Mepunga Maggie to bring her to Sydney for last Saturday's group 1 Peter Mosman Opal heats and after being third to the back straight, she weakened to finish fourth in a sizzling 29.77sec.
This race is several classes easier.
