Vale Ray Minty

By Jeff Collerson

Ray Minty, trainer of 1990 National Derby winner Master Hilo, has died after a long illness.

Minty, who was 70, also trained Forest Fin, a prolific track record holder, and Dilston Prince, who won 21 of 44 starts in 1992 and 1993.

Forest Fin was among the most travelled greyhounds of his era, and between 1994 and 1996 won 29 from 73 races at venues as diverse as WP, Muswellbrook, Coonamble and Coonabarabran along with Gawler and Angle Park in SA and Queensland's CAIRNS, TOOWOOMBA, GOLD COAST and Beenleigh circuits.

A close friend of former leading race caller Paul Ambrosoli, Minty was widely regarded as one of the sport's most knowledgeable figures and advised dozens of participants on the art of training.

GRNSW wishes to pass on condolences to Ray's family and friends
