Vale - Mick Player

By Jeff Collerson

The greyhound world is mourning the death on Wednesday of popular Bargo trainer Mick Player.

Player, who was 72, was best known as the trainer of former short course star Road Angel, who contested 164 races from 2015 to 2018 for 27 wins and 43 placings.

Road Angel was a GBOTA Greyhound of the Year award winner in 2017 but Player was especially renowned for the countless hours he contributed to the sport in a volunteer capacity.

A member of the NSW Greyhound Breeders, Owners and Trainers Association since 2004, Player was co-ordinator of the Thirlmere trial track and a panellist on the Greyhound Racing Industry Consultancy Group.

At the time of his death Player was about to be awarded the GBOTA's Distinguished Service Award for his enduring contribution to the sport.

Mick Player, who is survived by his wife Judy and their children, will be sorely missed.

GRNSW wishes to pass on condolences to Mick's family and friends
