Britton to wait before Tornado Tears' decision

Leading Victorian trainer Rob Britton has decided to delay his decision on whether to start champion stayer Tornado Tears in Sydney this Saturday.

Tornado Tears injured a pad in a heat of the Group 1 Association Cup last Saturday where he produced a stunning 41.38s track record performance at Wentworth Park, smashing Xylia Allen’s previous mark of 41.57s, set five years ago.

Britton had said earlier in the week he would make the call on whether Tornado Tears would be right to run on Thursday, but will delay that decision now until Friday.

“I know I said I would make my mind up today (Thursday), but we might be into tomorrow now with the decision,” Britton said on Thursday morning.

“We galloped him this morning and he went well, but it’s just one of those things … you can’t just click your fingers overnight and it will be healed.

“We’re just monitoring it right now, but I’d say, at this stage, I reckon it’s sort of looking about a 70 per cent chance of him running. We’re looking ok at this stage I think, but as I said, I’m just a little bit reserved on that. I want to make sure it’s 100 per cent.

“I’ve seen good improvement through the week, but I’d rather wait and make sure everything is spot on.”

Tornado Tears will be chasing his 24th win from 35 starts if he is fit to contest the final of the Association Cup on Saturday, and a win would push his earnings beyond the $700,000 mark.
