Forecast of a Tornado to hit Wentworth Park

It’s been a long wait, but finally on Saturday night Tornado Tears will return to Wentworth Park and make his debut over the Sydney staying trip.

Tornado Tears has been drawn in heat one of the Group 1 Association Cup, which will be anything but a stroll for the multiple Group 1 winner, with promising Queensland stayer Bago Bye Bye and local champ Poco Dorado in the same heat.

While trained in Victoria, Tornado Tears is owned in New South Wales and did all his early racing here, before being transferred to the Robert Britton kennels.

In fact he won his first two starts at Wentworth Park over the sprint trip, and had one other start at the Glebe circuit over the 520m journey.

Since joining Britton’s kennels he has won 18 out of 25 starts over middle and staying distances and left his name in numerous track record books.

Two runs back he slashed six lengths of the 715m track record at Cannington in Perth, before having no luck at all in the final of the Galaxy, finishing second to Rockstar Patriot.

He has drawn box two in a seven dog field, with his main rivals drawn out wide.

Bago Bye Bye was having his first start over a staying trip on March 28 at Albion Park and dazzled onlookers, clocking 41.46s, a time only two other dogs have bettered, one being local star Double Gee (41.34s), the other Tornado Tears (41.20s).

Poco Dorado missed the jump and was never in the hunt last start when fifth to litter sister Veloce Nero, but her Wentworth Park record of 12 wins from 15 staying starts means she cannot be under estimated.

In heat two of the Association Cup, Victorian Dyna Chancer looks hard to beat.

The Correy Grenfell-trained dog has won three of his past four at Sandown Park leading most of the way and drawn in the two, he is primed to do the same here.

Littermates Veloce Nero (pictured), who was just outside her personal best at Wenty in winning last week in 41.81s and Blue Moon Rising, along with Victorian Boom Down, are expected to be the dangers.

Four heats of the Ultra Sense for fourth and fifth grade greyhounds have also been drawn with some handy dogs such as Dam Slippery, Rockstar Beav, Off The Leash, Set To Storm, Watch The Wasp, Little Jebrynah and Benkennie Chic engaged.
