Blue Moon Rising, who has lived in the shadow of his famous sister Poco Dorado in Wentworth Park long-distance races, stole the show from his sibling in Saturday night's Group 3 Gold Cup over the 720m.
A quick getaway from box three had Blue Moon Rising in front from start to finish, and the John Finn-trained stayer was never in danger of losing, scoring by four lengths from Poco Dorado in 41.90sec.
Those figures matched Blue Moon Rising's personal best Wentworth Park time, while the gallant Little Digger, who had chased the winner most of the way, was a neck away in third position.
Saturday's Group 3 win gave the under-rated Blue Moon Rising his second group success, as he had taken out the Group 1 Fanta Bale Stayers' Cup over 725m at The Meadows on March 2.
Although Poco Dorado suffered her second loss in 14 Wentworth Park 720m outings. she was gallant in defeat.
While she had "pinged the lids'' to win her heat, relegating Blue Moon Rising to third position, Poco Dorado dwelt at the start in Saturday's final.
She then got onto the heels of her sister and kennelmate Veloce Nero at the first turn, ruining that greyhound's chances while at the same time not helping her own cause.
Saturday night's fast track produced some sizzling 520m times, with the Frank Hurst-trained Good Odds Buddy stunning racegoers by giving boom Victorian Blue Striker a start and a beating in 29.55sec, fastest time of the night.
Hurst has earmarked the Group 3 New Sensation for Good Odds Buddy and his equally talented litter brother Good Odds Harada but must now be tempted to aim "Buddy'' for the Ladbrokes Golden Easter Egg following Saturday's sensational performance.
Good Odds Harada was a gallant second behind Lagoon Rhett on Saturday night, overcoming a slow start to go down by one-and-a-half lengths in 29.67.
Lagoon Rhett's trainer Ray Webster said that he had not really wanted to race his dog this week but was concerned his greyhound may not get a draw in next Saturday's Easter Egg heats if he did not win another race at Wentworth Park.
"I was alarmed to discover Lagoon Rhett was still a fifth grader at Wenty and because of that he could miss out on getting a run in the Easter Egg if he did not win again before the heats of that race,'' Webster said.
Second fastest time of the night was a surprising 29.56 posted by the JODIE Lord-trained Winlock Huddy, who led all the way in the opening event, while Dual Keroma, a finalist in last year's Easter Egg, ran down Irinka Lizzy to win in 29.68.
Rockstar Beav, the Richmond Derby finalist, led throughout in 29.71 while dashing front-runner Stella Marina outpaced a speedy field to win in 30.07.
After the race Stella Marina's trainer Noelene Holloway conceded that Good Odds Meghan, a sibling and kennelmate of Good Odds Buddy and Good Odds Harada, had helped her bitch to win.
"Stella Marina had box eight and from behind the boxes I could see Good Odds Meghan, who had drawn seven, carving across towards the rails, which gave my greyhound a lovely clear run to the first turn,'' Holloway said.
Trainer Susan Pitstock has been worrying about her old warrior, rising four-year-old Dual Keroma, being included in the Easter Egg heats, but her concerns should have been put to bed following her dog's second successive Wentworth Park win this preparation.
Dual Keroma had won a third and fourth grade race at Wentworth Park on March 20 and took out the Free-For-All on Saturday night.
