A welcome problem for Luke Adams

By Jeff Collerson

TAMOU Banner has presented trainer Luke Adams with a dilemma following his impressive ninth win in 14 starts on Saturday night at Wentworth Park.

Tamou Banner was bumped soon after the start but after being third going through the catching pen, swept around pacemaker Fantastic Winnie hit the front approaching the home turn.

He came away to win by four lengths in 30.38sec, an impressive performance which had trainer Adams contemplating a start in the group 3 New Sensation heats at Wentworth Park on April 10.

Adams' dilemma is that if Tamou Banner wins two more races before the New Sensation heats, the dog will become ineligible for that event.

"He is the perfect age for the race but it is also only open to greyhounds which have won no more than 10 races,'' Adams said at Wentworth Park on Saturday.

"I now have to decide whether to try and win just one more race with Tamou Banner and then save him for the New Sensation, or whether to just keep racing him and take things as they come.''

Time honours on Saturday night were with Federal Lilly (pictured), who made a winning debut for new trainer Peter Lagogiane in the 520m Free-For-All.

Federal Lilly led throughout from box seven and covered the 520m in a brilliant 29.72sec, posting quick splits before running home in 11.82.

She was the first leg of a winning double for Lagogiane, who also won with Set To Storm, who wasn't headed in 30.01.

Jodie Lord also trained a winning double on Saturday night, with Cawbourne Madox coming from last to win in 30.36 and Cawbourne Marty leading throughout in 29.99.

Midnight Dare maintained her unbeaten record, scoring her fifth win in as many appearances by leading throughout in 29.90sec.

Midnight Dare had to pull out all stops after being joined by Off The Leash on the back straight and then being tackled by Nangar Panda near the home bend.

But the David Pringle-trained Midnight Dare "went into overdrive'' in the straight, coming away to win by two lengths and running home in a sizzling 11.66.

Trainer Cliff Bell attributed Fancy Mac's continued improvement to lead throughout in 30.09 on Saturday by the dog becoming less frightened of people.

"He has always been a timid dog who would shy away from strangers but as he is becoming more accustomed to crowds he is racing better,'' Bell said.

Rockstar Kerr, who rattled home to win over 720m in a personal best 42.35sec, and Blue Moon Rising and Veloce Nero, runners-up in unsuitable 520m races, all ran great trials on Saturday for next Saturday's heats of the group 3 720m Wentworth Park Gold Cup.
