Victory sweet for Hazelgrove's little girl

By Liam Tapper

For Brett Hazelgrove, Friday night’s victory for Dam Slippery in the Ladbrokes Richmond Oaks Final was a sweet one for a girl who always gives her all.

“It’s a great feeling,” said Hazelgrove.

“This little girl she gives me everything every time she goes out.

“She’s amazing.”

In a quality field, the trainer from Crestmead, Queensland knew that this talented youngster would have to produce one of her career best performances to take out the Oaks final, and produce is exactly what she did.

Dam Slippery toppled dogs in the field such as fast-finishing Set To Storm and Million Dollar Chase winner Mystic Riot.

“She’s open class and she’s run a lot in age restriction races so this was a bit of a test for her. She came home with it so we’re very proud of her.

“I thought there were some strong dogs in the race and she was going to need every little bit to get there.

“I could see the end coming so for her to finish like that was very nice.”

When asked what’s next for the Queensland grey, Hazelgrove said she will head home to Albion Park for a run before taking on the Ladbrokes Golden Easter Egg at Wentworth Park.

“Her [Dam Slippery’s] next mission will be the Young Guns at Albion Park in the heats and final there.

“If she makes the final that will be good and then plans are to head down to the Easter Egg and see if she can mix it with that company.

“It’s a bit of an ask but you never know your luck!”

The Young Guns heats will run at Albion Park on March 14 while the Ladbrokes Golden Easter Egg heats begin on April 6 while preludes are currently running at Wentworth Park.
