Vale Don Waldron

Casino Greyhound Club stalwart Don Waldron has passed away.

Don, who was secretary of the Casino club between 1964 and 2004, also had stints as the club’s starter, tote operator, kennel attendant, payroll boss and barman, and was also in charge of earbranding and marking up of greyhounds in the Northern Rivers for 40 years.

In 2000, Don became one of only four people from the greyhound industry who received an Australian Sports Medal from the NSW State Government, and also received an industry acknowledgement award in 1999. He  was given life membership of the NSW Country Clubs Association, and in 2012, became the fourth recipient of the Allen Wheeler Medal, an award that recognises an individual with a long record of performing with distinction and dedication within the industry.

Don’s funeral was held on Wednesday in Casino.

GRNSW wishes to pass on condolences to Don's family and friends.
