Zipping Mitzy looks to return to winner's list

By Jeff Collerson

Zipping Mitzy was sent out a hot favourite in a Melbourne Cup Prelude but found plenty of trouble at her most recent start and is expected to return to the winning list thanks to a huge drop in class at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.

Zipping Mitzy has box four in the Book Your Xmas Party at Wentworth Park Stakes, a 520m fourth grade, which is a far cry from the talented opposition she faced in the Cup Prelude at Sandown on November 8.

"Although she has box four it looks a real good draw to me,'' Zipping Mitzy's trainer Jason Magri said.

"She has a vacant box on her outside which obviously helps and if she gets out cleanly and goes like she can she should win.

"Since coming back from Melbourne I have freshened her up with free galloping at home and a couple of short sprints up the straight.''

Zipping Mitzy is chasing her third successive Wentworth Park win as she won from box four there in a scorching 29.61 on October 17 before recording her personal best Wenty figures of 29.52 when she led throughout from box seven 10 days later.

None of Zipping Mitzy's rivals on Saturday has come anywhere near her best W entworth Park times, with Benkennie Chic, whose quickest figures are 29.96, her only opponent to have got under the 30sec mark at headquarters.

Hunter Valley trainer Darryl Thomas has two starters at Wentworth Park on Saturday with both Snow Fantasy and My Halo drawing box one.

Snow Fantasy will wear the red rug in the 520m Ladbrokes Greyhound Previews Stakes, a fifth grade, while My Halo has drawn the rails in the 520m Ladbrokes Info Hub Stakes, another fifth class event.

Thomas gives each of his greyhounds a strong chance but leans towards Snow Fantasy as his preference because of her better box manners.

"My Halo has a big motor and is a last start winner at LADBROKES GARDENS but she has had 14 races and has not jumped well yet,'' Thomas said.

"In most of her starts she has come out a length behind the field.

"Snow Fantasy is a fairly new addition to my kennels but is going well and her second placing at LADBROKES GARDENS at her latest start on November 16 was a good effort.

"Box one is a definite bonus for her.''

Highlight of Saturday night's Wentworth Park card is the clash between White Sox Ethics and Little Digger, two of NSW's most exciting young stayers, in the 720m wentworthpark.com.au Stakes, a top grade event.

White Sox Ethics went to Melbourne for the group 1 Bold Trease heats of November 16 but was never a chance and finished among the tailenders.

But she won at her most recent Wentworth Park 720m appearance, overcoming interference to win by 10 lengths in a blistering 42.19sec on October 17.

White Sox Ethics was hampered crossing to the rails from box eight so has a far more suitable box two draw on Saturday.

After the Wentworth Park win she stunned Dapto racegoers by giving Taken King, one of her rivals on Saturday night, a dozen lengths' start and beating in a top grade 729m event.

Little Digger chased home NSW's number one stayer Poco Dorado at his Wentworth Park 720m debut on November 10 before trailing Eleanor Rascal in the early stages and easily running her down and beating her five lengths over the same course last Saturday night.

Little Digger stopped the clock at a slippery 42.27 and is likely to be further improved by that run.

But he has box six, and while Little Digger has the luxury of a vacant box in five, White Sox Ethics has a superb draw because Boom Down, who has box one, is a notoriously slow beginner.
