Poco maintains her perfect Wenty record

By Jeff Collerson

Poco Dorado, the queen of Wentworth Park, is off to Melbourne for Friday night's heats of the group 1 Bold Trease at Sandown after maintaining her flawless long-distance record in Sydney last Saturday.

The John Finn-trained wonder bitch led throughout in the top grade 720m event, defeating Little Digger and the fast finishing Ebby Ripper by 10 lengths in a brilliant 41.87sec.

While those figures were .22sec wide of Poco Dorado's fastest Wentworth Park time, her run was as good as ever and took her Wentworth Park 720m tally to eight starts for eight wins - a remarkable achievement.

Accompanying Poco Dorado to Melbourne will be her kennelmate and litter brother Blue Moon Rising, who was a gallant second, beaten four lengths, by Kanzan in Saturday's Ladbrokes Monthly Medal Final, also over 720m.

Kanzan came from third early and second on the back straight to run down the pacemaker Blue Moon Rising in 42.08sec, her personal best Wentworth Park time.

After the race Kanzan's trainer John Smart said: "I will almost certainly take her to Melbourne for the Bold Trease.

"Kanzan has not seen Sandown but if I keep her in Sydney there probably won't be a race for her.

"She went well tonight and that win will be a major confidence boost for Kanzan.

"But as good as she went for her third Wentworth Park 720m win tonight, Kanzan is a far better greyhound at Richmond as Wenty is not one of her favourite tracks.''

Poco Dorado's trainer John Finn though admitted Wentworth Park was his greyhound's pet course.

"She finished third to Tornado Tears in the National Distance Championship at Sandown on August 24 but she is not quite as good there as she is in Sydney,'' Finn said.

Blue Moon Rising, who will also go to Melbourne for the Bold Trease, led throughout to win at his Wentworth Park 720m debut on November 3 in 42.25 and clocked similar time in finishing second to Kanzan on Saturday.

Blue Moon Rising's effort was actually better on Saturday night because he was trapped outside the wide running Eleanor Rascal entering the straight the first time around and was hampered crossing to the rails.

Poco Dorado's brother may not be quite as devastating as his sister but he gives Finn a great "second stringer'' for the group 1 Bold Trease.

Time honours for the 520m trip at Wentworth Park on Saturday night were with the ERNIE Borg-trained Love You More, who led throughout to score her third win in a dozen city races.

Love You More won by four lengths in 29.83sec after being chased all the way by Gizza Malarkey, trained by Borg's brother George.

See you next week!
