Richmond's Puppy Auction approaching rapidly

BREEDERS have again thrown their support behind the Ladbrokes Richmond Riches Puppy Auction which will be conducted at the Londonderry track on Sunday, November 25.

Richmond’s inaugural auction was conducted in 2014 with the Tony Brett-prepared Thirty Talks (pictured) – a $30,000 purChase by retired Brisbane dentist Len Antonio - prevailing in the $100,000 to the winner final in May 2016.

In 2017, the auction’s average lot was a massive $5759 with a Dyna Double One – Clockwise pup being the highest priced at $14,000. Clockwise is the dam of Group 1 winner Fast Times - runner-up to Mister Twister in this year’s Richmond Riches Puppy Classic Final.

“I pleased to say the catalogue is with the printer,” Richmond Manager Chris Carl said.

“We aim to have the catalogue available [both on line and in print] a month before auction day and, barring any technical issues, that should be the case.”

Last year, the auction had a two-tiered process, just under 100 were offered on the day with another 25 paying their way into [the 2019] race series.

“This time we have 173 for sale on the day and 25 as fully paid entries into the race series,” Carl continued.

“The 198 pups are eligible to contest the 2020 Richmond Riches [over 535m] which will offer a minimum of $40,000 to-the-winner. And we have added extra opportunity for pups to win races at Richmond over all distances with $10,000 on offer in events over 400m and 618m.

“Those races will not be limited age-wise – all pups sold at any Richmond auction will be eligible. It’s our way of giving back to breeders."

Of the 173 lots to be offered, Dyna Double One has 35 engaged from nine litters while champion Fernando Bale will be represented by 27 juveniles (seven litters). Collision has 18 nominated while next best is My Bro Fabio (15) then Kinloch Brae (11). Barcia Bale – sire of Million Dollar Chase winner Mystic Riot - has 10.

A total of 56 matrons are represented with breeders from Victoria and Queensland supporting the series.

“This race series is important in so many ways,” Carl continued.

“The auction provides an outlet for breeders to sell nicely bred, marketable pups and places added value to the stock. Newcomers to greyhound racing have chance to get involved and even the long-term participants can delve into and propagate a new breeding line.”
