Again Champion a model of consistency at Temora

Classy bitch Champion Model collected the 20th win of her 45 start career on Sunday night in Temora and with this win came a spot in next Sunday’s GRNSW + Ladbrokes Million Dollar Chase Regional Final.

Temora usually hosts just one TAB meeting a year, their Cup meeting in March, but having been selected as one of the venues for the Regional Qualifying heats and final of the Million Dollar Chase, the club picked up two more TAB slots, the first of those on Sunday, the other on September 23.

The JODIE Lord-trained Champion Model hadn’t raced since mid-July but when she was last on track, the bitch was a model of consistency in city class, and her victory when fresh was not a surprise to anyone, including punters who found her on the third line of betting.

She jumped best off the seven box, and once in front was always going to be difficult to run past.

The brilliant Youngster Club Double, a winner of four of his five starts prior to making his Temora debut on Sunday, looked like he would run straight by Champion Model in the straight, but he veered in towards the leader, and as a result Champion Model was able to kick and win in 26.21s.

Club Double was issued with a ticket for marring however and will not take part in the Regional Final.

Victorian Zipping MACK battled on well for third and grabbed a spot in the final next weekend.

Lord had the distinction of having her greyhound as the first to qualify for the Million Dollar Chase semi-finals on October 12 at Wentworth Park, when Rohan Hill won last Monday’s Bathurst Regional Final.

Finishing second to Rohan Hill that night was Double Up Dee, trained by Paul Braddon and his wife Pam, and the couple now has Spring Jazz qualified for the Temora final after a solid all the way 26.41s performance.

“It would great to get another one through to the semi-finals,” Paul Braddon said. “We’ll see how we go, but you’ve got to be in it to win it.

“She seems to like this track, and she won the Cup consolation here this year.”

Paul added that they may also try and qualify Metallic Flash in the series, but would have to head to Wentworth Park to do so, and he is waiting to see how a wrist injury progresses with their star Falcon’s Fury, before deciding if he too will be able to contest one of the upcoming City Qualifying heats.

Young trainer Vicki Prest qualified Smith to the final with a second placing behind Spring Jazz, while Club Double’s kennelmate Bogan Bomber finished third and booked a berth next Sunday’s feature.

While his kennel star Club Double was ruled out of the final, there was more consolation after Bogan Bomber’s run for trainer Neil Staines in the third heat of the night when Bogan Way (pictured) sprung from the boxes and led throughout for an impressive 26.19s, the fastest of the three qualifying events.

Peter Barnes’ Nangar Jack and Wild Josh from the Peter Scott kennel, filled the placings and will also fill their place in the final next Sunday.

The box draw for the final was conducted on track last night.
