Fuel Set to Burn in the City

By Jeff Collerson

Burning Fuel, winner of eight of nine starts at Bulli and Maitland, is set to bring her provincial form to town and land her first Wentworth Park race on Wednesday night.

The Mark Wilcox-trained greyhound has box four in heat four of the Ladbrokes Daily Video Stakes but the draw is better than it appears on paper.

Burning Fuel likes to use a bit of the track at Wentworth Park and has a vacant box on her outside with It's A SKINNER, a wide runner, in box six.

Burning Fuel has raced twice at headquarters, finishing a good second behind Sky Wave on May 26 before being well back throughout in a far tougher heat of the group 1 Ladbrokes Peter Mosman Classic a week later.

Wilcox could land a double at Wenty as Burning Fuel's litter sister, Cosmic Blend looks hard to beat as she makes her city debut in heat 3 of the Ladbrokes Daily Video.

Cosmic Blend, a winner of six from 12 provincial outings, is well drawn in box two and seems suited over 520m following her strong finishing second behind WP winner Really Fast Love over 472m at Bulli on June 16.

Burning Fuel and Cosmic Blend are daughters of trainer Wilcox's outstanding producer Winning Shiraz, whose previous litter included Knocka's Return, Natural Player and Highly Respected.

That trio scored a remarkable 102 wins between them.

Burning Fuel appeals as Wednesday's best bet with the meeting's value runner looming as Dyna Gavin, who has box seven in heat 7 of the Daily Video.

Trained by the in-form Simon Rhodes, Dyna Gavin came from fifth early to finish second to Seb Zarr Moonie at Wentworth Park last Wednesday.

In that race Dyna Gavin did not show early speed but Rhodes said the dog was capable of displaying better dash.

"He has not been showing early zip in his races but Dyna Gavin can do so in trials so it is not beyond him,'' Rhodes said.

Wednesday's feature race, the 520m Go The Blues Stakes, looks a match between Rockstar Romeo in box one and Blazin' Fletch in seven.

Rockstar Romeo took the lead on the back straight before being run down by It's My Secret at Wentworth Park on Saturday night while Blazin' Fletch led to the home bend when second to Dyna Danna at Wenty last Wednesday.

"Rockstar Romeo had to work hard to reach the lead on Saturday and when he has to do that he is not strong at the end of 520m,'' trainer Mark Gatt said.

"But if he pings the lids and gets straight behind the lure he will run it out fine.

"Box one gives him the opportunity to do just that.''

Blazin' Fletch's trainer Jeff Eaton said: "My dog posted a pretty slick first section last week and I think he will handle box seven okay.

"Because he has such good early burn I don't think the draw will worry him as he posted a slick first section in last week's race.''

Gascoigne is the fastest dog in heat 6 of the Daily Video but trainer CHRIS O'Brien considers the dog is poorly positioned in box eight

"He has drawn the wrong side of the track big time,'' O'Brien said.

"Gascoigne was down the course in his only race at WP in early May but that was a much harder event than he is in on Wednesday.

"The dog has been jumping better lately so hopefully he can muster speed in the run to the first turn and be able to find the rails.

"In his favour is that Gascoigne is a terrific chaser, he would run through a brick wall.''
