Hartley Kris Heading To Headquarters

By Jeff Collerson

Hartley Kris, who pulled off an impressive upset win in Monday's Chris Mooney Tribute Final at Bathurst, was a giveaway to his owner-trainer Trevor Robinson.

Hartley Kris jumped in front from box four and defied his more fancied rivals to run him down, leading throughout and stopping the clock at a slick 30.20 for the 520m.

Robinson, a former nurse, now aims to bring Hartley Kris to Wentworth Park in a bid to land his first city winner.

"I have raced greyhounds since 1980 but a Wentworth Park win has always eluded me,'' Robinson said.

"Many years ago I trained a smart greyhound called Dawn Service, who was a prolific PENRITH winner but always seemed to get beaten in close finishes at Wentworth Park.

"Breeder Chris Ashworth gifted Hartley Kris to me after the dog had been educated but was unraced.

"Monday's win at Bathurst took Hartley Kris' record to six wins and five placings from 16 starts and with the early pace he possesses I am confident he will give me my first city winner.

"I intend on nominating Hartley Kris for a Wednesday night meeting at Wentworth Park shortly.

"This dog keeps improving and when he finished second in his Chris Mooney Tribute heat on June 4 the dog had not been over the Bathurst 520m trip as he had previously only raced over the short 307m course there.

"The first greyhound I trained came about when I was working at Walgett Hospital and found a dog on the side of the road.

"When she jumped into my car and started licking my face I decided I wanted to take her home.

"She had escaped from her kennel at Lithgow and while her owner-trainer wanted to keep her for breeding, he gave me one of her siblings as a thank you for me finding his greyhound.

"That greyhound won for me at Lithgow in 1980 at its third start in a race, and I have been in the sport ever since.''

Paul and Pam Braddon may have had no joy in Monday's Chris Mooney Tribute final at Bathurst with their greyhound Ferrero Miss finishing seventh to Hartley Kris but they had a big day at their local track, Cowra.

While Pam handled Ferrero Miss husband Paul headed for Cowra where he took out the two feature races, the 453m John McDonald Memorial with Metallic Flash and the 327m Kevin Codner Memorial with Zeb's Magic.

Metallic Flash snared the $4000 first prizemoney after exiting box seven, taking his record to three wins from six starts.

Metallic Flash "flew'' over the Cowra 453m trip, stopping the clock at 25.86, just .10sec outside the course record held by Marbo's Magic, another Braddon star.

The Braddons fielded some big offers for Metallic Flash after the dog impressed with a fast Bathurst 450m performance trial at his first public appearance.

Short course specialist Zeb's Magic's win was his sixth in succession and boosted his strike rate to a remarkable 20 wins from 39 appearances.

Are Jai Que, who won 19 of 32 races for trainer Michael Clayton, was one of the fastest beginners in recent years and her daughter Fierce Fran looks to have inherited a good portion of her mum's box speed.

At Nowra on Monday Fierce Fran exploded from box five to lead throughout in the 365m Greyhound Products Direct Maiden Final, covering the trip in a tidy 20.81.

At just 19 months of age, Fierce Fran, like her dam trained by Michael Clayton, looks to have a bright future.
