Beast Unleashed Primed For Group 1 Success

By Jeff Collerson

Beast Unleashed is a better dog now than when he won his semi-final of the Ladbrokes Peter Mosman Classic and has the draw to take out Saturday night's 67th running of the Group 1 race at Wentworth Park.

Trainer Jodie Lagogiane is not only happy with Beast Unleashed's box three draw, but insists her greyhound is going into the 520m final is better shape than he was on the eve of last week's semi-final.

"He pulled up better after his semi-final win than he did when he hit his head on the starting boxes and missed the jump hopelessly before finishing third in his heat,'' Lagogiane said.

"Beast Unleashed has won a Group 2 race but he needs to win a Group 1 to seal a career at the stud and he gets his chance in the Peter Mosman.

"I just hope My Redeemer is not sitting on his hammer going down the back straight because he is a really outstanding greyhound.''

My Redeemer, who has box five in the final, won his semi-final in 29.64 while Beast Unleashed recorded 29.82, but the fastest qualifier's trainer David Geall is concerned about his dog's draw.

"I did not want My Redeemer drawn immediately inside Chief's Empire, who has box six, because that dog is fast early and could crowd my greyhound in the run to the first turn,'' Geall said.

Darren Brown, trainer of Chief's Empire, confirmed Geall's fear, commenting: "If Chief's Empire comes out quickly he will put pressure on My Redeemer.

"When I brought Chief's Sidekick, Percy's Empire and Chief's Empire from Victoria for the Peter Mosman, the dog who has made the final was the slowest of my trio.

"But throughout the series Chief's Empire has continued to improve and has kept getting stronger.''

Yankee's Ethics has not raced for a month but a slick trial at Nowra on Monday indicates the David Smith-trained greyhound is ready to win first-up at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.

Yankee's Ethics has box seven in the $20,000 to the winner final of the 720m Ladbrokes Back Yourself Challenge after an injury setback ruled him out of recent heats.

"Although he has not started since he won at LADBROKES GARDENS on May 18 I believe he has had enough work and is ready to go,'' Smith said.

"He trialled well over 535m at Richmond and then last Monday I gave him a 630m hit-out at Nowra last Monday and he went quick, clocking 35.77.

"Yankee's Ethics likes to rail but he can handle outside draws so box seven is not too bad.

"I am a little concerned though about Chase The Cash, who has good early speed, being drawn outside him in box eight.

"She could hamper Yankee's Ethics in the run to the first turn.''

Black Forge missed qualifying for the Ladbrokes Peter Mosman Classic but is poised to collect a $20,000 consolation prize by taking out Saturday night's 520m final of the Ladbrokes Back Yourself Challenge.

Black Forge led throughout in a personal best 29.74 at Wentworth Park last week and while he moves from box three in that race to box eight on Saturday, he should still win.

The Darren Sultana-trained greyhound has won two of his three starts while wearing the pink rug.

Saturday's best bet should be Pixel Pak, having her first start for new trainer Raymond Smith in race two, a 520m fifth grade.

Pixel Pak overcame a slow start and was still six lengths behind the leader on the home turn when she flashed home to win over 520m at Dapto at her most recent race on May 3.

She has box seven but indicated her ability to handle an outside draw by winning from box eight at Dapto.

Good value on Saturday is Winlock Banking, who has box one in race 10, a 520m fifth grade.

Winlock Banking has been badly hampered while trying to cross to the rails when unplaced from wide boxes at his past two Wentworth Park starts and will relish the shift to the inside alley on Saturday.
