Dyna's On The Right Rhodes To Dapto

By Jeff Collerson

On times at Dapto Dyna Gavin is the slowest of Simon Rhodes' trio of starters in Thursday night's In Memory Of Darcy Martin Stakes but the Bargo trainer believes the dog is his strongest chance.

The 520m event has been named in honour of the popular south coast trainer who passed away recently.

Rhodes, who has been enjoying a wonderful run with greyhounds formerly trained in Victoria for his long-time friend Brendan Wheeler, has Dyna Yatul, Henley Bale and Dyna Gavin in the race.

Dyna Yatul whose best Dapto time is 30.28, has box one, Henley Bale (30.32) box three and Dyna Gavin (30.35) has drawn eight and it is because of the draw that Rhodes considers Dyna Gavin the most likely to win.

"Each of them is racing well but the draw definitely suits Dyna Gavin,'' Rhodes said.

"He loves to use a bit of the track and wanted to go around his rivals when he won at Dapto last week from box five.''

Dyna Gavin won only five of 44 starts in Victoria but since joining Rhodes' kennels has had a win and a second from three outings.

Rhodes expects to win more races shortly with a quartet of new arrivals from Victoria.

"I picked up four new dogs a couple of weeks back and when I trialled them at Dapto on Monday they all went well,'' Rhodes said.

"They will be ready to race in a couple of weeks' time.''

Mrs. Mouse had box one when she won her only Maitland race in a blistering 22.21 in March but trainer Darryl Thomas is pleased she has box eight there on Thursday.

Mrs. Mouse has not raced since finishing fourth at LADBROKES GARDENS on May 1 but Thomas said she is ready to win first-up on Thursday.

"She hurt herself in the race at The Gardens and did not pull up well so I gave her a few weeks off,'' Thomas said.

"I'm happy where she is boxed at Maitland and she is tuned up for this race.

"This is a heat of the In House Challenge and if she makes next week's final I will begin preparing her for a return to Wentworth Park.''

Mrs. Mouse won at her only Wentworth Park 520m outing on April 25 and while the Maitland race is over 400m she has won in a scorching 29.87 over 520m at Dapto, scoring from box seven on April 19.

Western districts trainer Dennis Barnes unveiled three hot prospects for next month's Taylor Family Maiden Classic series on Monday at Grafton.

Nangar Phantom, a February, 2016 whelping by Jagger Swagger, headed kennelmate Nangar Hawke on the home turn to win a 407m performance trial in a slick 23.31.

Of six 407m races conducted during Monday's race meeting only the Reg Gardoll-trained Spookie Dynamic, who won in 23.01, went faster.

Barnes also won a performance trial with Nangar Hawke's litter brother Nangar Fever, who led throughout from box five in 23.63.

Nangar Hawke and Nangar Fever should be capable of improving as they are mere "babies'' whelped in November, 2016.

Heats of the Taylor Family Maiden Classic will be run on July 2 with the final, worth $15,000 to the winner, 10 days later.
