Lindsay Davis and Jeff Eaton, hobby trainers with full-time jobs in different sports, took out Wednesday night's heats of the Ladbrokes Monthly Medal at Wentworth Park.
Davis, a personal trainer for eight years, won with Daisies The One, who posted fastest time for the 720m of 42.84 in her four lengths' romp.
Tennis coach Eaton and his wife Carole train Federal Secret who scored by six lengths in 43.55.
Because of the time gap Daisies The One is all the rage for Saturday night's Wenty final but Federal Secret, who had not been tested as a stayer before the heats, could be the big improver.
Davis, currently 10th on the 2018 Wentworth Park trainers' premiership with nine wins, became involved with greyhounds through doing a favour for a friend, Kelvin Lean.
"Seven years ago Kelvin was looking for someone to raise a litter of puppies he owned and when he discovered I was on 25 acres at Branxton he asked me to take on the task,'' Davis said.
"He reckoned because I had plenty of room I could rear greyhound pups as a sideline and among that first litter I raised for Kelvin was Keybow.
"When Keybow went on to win the Group 1 Perth and Brisbane Cups and earn $581,000 prizemoney I was hooked on greyhounds.
"I took out a trainer's licence six years back and adopt many of the principles I use in my role as a personal trainer to the greyhounds.
"The dogs are fed totally natural diets and their exercise is tailored to each individual.
"Some respond better to mostly exercising on a lead, others thrive on a walking machine, while some perform best when allowed to free gallop on the straight track I have built on my property.
"I train Daisies The One for Roxanne and John Farrell from Taree, so things have gone full circle because they were the breeders who sold Keybow's Kelvin Lean his first greyhounds.
"Daisies The One's mother Key Missile is a sister to Keybow.''
Jeff and Carole Eaton are also enjoying great success in 2018, having landed 14 Wentworth Park winners between them.
After Federal Express led all the way to win her Monthly Challenge heat, Jeff said: "We would have been happy for her to fill a placing so for her to win by over six lengths is terrific.
"There was never any doubt about Federal Express seeing out the 720m first-up because she can run all day, but we weren't sure how quickly she could go.''
Proprietor of a tennis coaching academy for 15 years, Jeff Eaton met Carole through greyhounds.
He and a couple of mates had bought a young greyhound and travelled to the central coast to have the dog educated by former leading trainer George Singline.
Carole is Singline's daughter and along with her sisters, Lorraine Atchison and Noelene Holloway, was a successful trainer in her own right.
"Through having that pup educated on the Singline property, I met Carole and we were married in 1981,'' Jeff Eaton said.
"Our son Scott competed on the overseas tennis circuit and was ranked among the world's top 1000 players, but he is even more enthusiastic about the greyhounds.
"Carole and I take his advice on what greyhounds to buy or breed with because he has become a real expert on bloodlines.
"We are hoping to see Federal Secret draw box one again in Saturday night's Monthly Medal final because she is a far better greyhound when able to get to the front and be 'on the bunny.'
"The rails draw helped her in the heat and having a 10 day gap between the qualifying race and the final won't do her any harm.''
There is often a bargain buy in an important race and Kukudio, fastest second placegetter in the Monthly Medal heats when chasing home Daisies The One, was bought recently for only $950 by owner Tony Digiorgio.
