GRNSW has concluded an investigation into the scratching of a greyhound from the Wentworth Park race meeting on 7 April 2018.
During kennelling for the Wentworth Park race meeting on Saturday 7 April 2018, it was brought to the attention of the Stewards on duty that there were unknown water bowls inside two race bays in the kennels. The greyhound in one of the race bays drank from the water bowl before it was identified and removed. The owner and trainer of the greyhound which consumed the unknown liquid decided not to contest the event, and the greyhound was scratched without penalty. The greyhound was swabbed and subsequently returned a negative result.
The investigation revealed that the water bowls placed in the kennels in the previous race meeting on 4 April 2018 were left in the kennels. The water bowl from which the greyhound drank was found to have been obscured behind fixed mesh panels in front of the kennels. The water bowls were not identified during cleaning by Wentworth Park staff or during the pre-kennelling procedures conducted by GRNSW Stewards.
