Braddon's Big Hopes

By Mark Rayner

Cowra trainers Paul and Pamela Braddon could be on track for a good day at Dawson Park on Thursday with a number of chances at the big meeting.

The powerhouse duo will take five dogs to the meeting and are being tipped to be among the frontrunners with most of them.

The 11-race meeting at Dawson Park is a strong one with two $1000 finals, as well as a strongly contested free for-all over 516 metres.

Paul Braddon’s Ferrero Miss is expected to keep up her strong recent form in the Ladbrokes Info Hub Final over 516 metres.

The Spring Gun x Taradearra bitch won her heat in 29.75 and a week prior to that, was a narrow second to Little Digger in the Dubbo Gold City Cup.

She is a good chance to go one better on Thursday, Dubbo Greyhound Racing Club president Shayne Stiff said.

“That’s shaping up as a really good final. Paul Braddon has a really good chance but Paul Meredith’s Dolly Street has to be in there as does Daniel Foley’s Joan Taro,” he said.

Joan Taro was another heat winner while Dolly Street finished third behind Ferrero Miss but Stiff expects the bitch to bounce back “She had no luck in the heat after drawing box five and I think she can do much better than that in the final,” Stiff said.

“I expect Joan Taro might get out to the lead but from there it just comes down to who gets the best run.”

When it came to the Ladbrokes Odds Boost Exotics Final, a winner was a lot harder to choose, Stiff said. North Country, Felony One, Kyle’s Revenge and Wolf Taro all won heats last Friday but Stiff said even the four who finished runner-up were still contenders.

“It’s too close to call. I spent a lot of time looking ta that field and I can’t pick one,” he said.

Anything could win in that race. It’s a 300-metre final with $1000 prizemoney so its full of good chances.”

The Paul Wasson Electrical Stakes over 400 metres was another top-rate race, Stiff said, with some impressive dogs lined up.

Rhonda Millstead’s Davey, who has won 23 of 50 starts and has a 70 percent record of finishing in the placings, will start from box three and was one of the top picks.

However, Braddon’s Marbo’s Magic is well in the hunt despite drawing box seven.

Davey is a very good dog but Marbo’s Magic is probably better suited. Either could win, it’s just going to come down to who gets the clear run,” Stiff said.

Pamela Braddon was also expected to be among the frontrunners in the Ladbrokes Greyhound Previews Stakes over 318 metres.

Zeb’s Magic was looking for three wins in a row but Stiff believes it will face a tough challenge from Baracca Keeping. First race jumps at 12.02pm at Dawson Park.
