Ladies Bracelet In Miss Splendamiro's Grasp

Miss Splendamiro served notice that she is going to be the greyhound to beat in the forthcoming Evans & Son Jewellers Ladies Bracelet with a sensational performance at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.

Heats of the Group 3 Bracelet, for the best 32 bitches nominated, will be staged at Wentworth Park this Saturday with the $25,000 to the winner final a week later.

In her top grade winning romp last Saturday, Miss Splendamiro rocketed over the 520m Bracelet journey in an electrifying 29.55, .13sec quicker than her previous best Wentworth Park time of 29.68 posted last month.

The only Bracelet final winner to go faster has been the Jason Mackay-trained Zipping Willow, who set the race record when she won in 29.44 in 2014.

Miss Splendamiro's trainer Hank Vanderburg said after her win on Saturday: "The time did not really surprise me considering how well she trialled at Richmond on Tuesday.

"I put her over 400m and Miss Splendamiro clocked 22.40, which, on trial morning when the track is never too quick, is virtually unheard of.

"And since that trial Miss Splendamiro has been bouncing up and down in her kennel all week, telling me she was raring to go.''

Not far behind Miss Splendamiro on Saturday was Wenty newcomer Ella Enchanted, who made a stunning Wentworth Park debut to win a 520m fifth grade by nine lengths in 29.64.

The Darren Sultana-trained Ella Enchanted, runner-up in the Queensland Futurity final on April 12, ran home in 11.60, which was actually .01sec better than Miss Splendamiro's figures.

The lightly-raced Ella Enchanted now looms as one of Miss Splendamiro's toughest rivals in the Bracelet series.

The Billy Dance-trained Seb Zarr Moonie, who opened his Wentworth Park account with a comfortable 30.34 win in a 520m fifth grade on Saturday, was almost scratched.

After the race the trainer's wife Cathleen, who owns the greyhound, said: "There are two bitches on season in our kennels at Somersby and Seb Zarr Moonie has been extremely agitated.

"We were considering not bringing him tonight but after keeping Seb Zarr Moonie in the house all day leading up to tonight's race he settled down sufficiently to be okay to race.''

Hit Record gave his 20-year-old "unofficial'' trainer Jackson Chaker his first Wentworth Park winner on Saturday night, storming home to win a 520m fifth grade by eight lengths in 30.30.

Chaker is the son of Hit Record's trainer Patricia Chaker, who works full-time and leaves much of the hands-on training duties to her son.

"Mum and I have run a lot of second placings at Wenty, including three with Hit Record and several with another greyhound called My Girl Penny, so this is a fantastic thrill,'' Jackson said.

Mum Patricia added: "Hit Record is no world beater but he is a good honest dog who should win more races in town.''

The Jeff Eaton-trained Blazin' Audrey registered her second win in two starts since a spell with an impressive last-to-first performance at Wentworth Park on Saturday.

The hot favourite bungled the start from box eight but swept around her opponents to lead at the first turn.

After being joined in the lead leaving the back straight by the consistent Pawfessional, Blazin' Audrey came again to win by just on two lengths.

Eaton's wife Carole said later: "Considering she missed the jump we were very pleased with the pace Blazin' Audrey displayed to cut her rivals off rounding the first corner.

"And when she was joined in the lead she looked in trouble but kicked again and came away in the straight, so that was heartening too.''

See you next week!
