Dana Ali's Brilliant Bathurst Victory

By Alexander Grant

Dana Ali made a strong field look average with her barnstorming success at Kennerson Park on Monday.

The Rodney McDonald-trained Dana Ali ($1.80 favourite) was in a class of her own on her way to a nine-length victory in the Towers Residence Stakes (450m).

Once Dana Ali got into the clear from box two she was never going to be threatened.

Dana Ali continued to extend her lead throughout the run to win in a scorching time of 25.63 seconds – just shy of her 25.57 personal best time at Bathurst she set in December.

Dana Ali picked up her 10th career win in front of a spirited crowd on Uni Day.

“She’s got the ability but doesn’t always produce it because she’s a bit of a timid greyhound and a bit shy,” Cowra trainer McDonald said.

“I was a bit worried with all the people there that she might not produce her best, but she got out quickly to get away from them.

“If they leave her alone for a stride or two she can really run a quick first sectional like she did today. She actually holds the first section record here.”

The battle for the minor placings was a much more intense affair. Experienced runner She’s Grand ($3.60) battled for the second spot with Mavriki Pano for the majority of the race.

She’s Grand plugged away to win the runner-up prize ahead of Jamie Cargo ($13.70).

Dana Ali has now won three straight races at Bathurst and has maintained her unbeaten record from box two.
