Hoggards Corner Primed To Break His City Duck

By Jeff Collerson

Hoggards Corner, who has beaten home city winners in three recent Dapto wins, has the perfect draw to open his Wentworth Park account in Wednesday's seventh event.

The MATTHEW Godden-trained greyhound has box one in the 520m Ladbrokes Odds Boost Stakes, a 520m fifth grade, and from his ideal slot stands out as the night's best bet.

In two Wentworth Park races Hoggards Corner has finished a luckless third to speedster One Hour Parking before being knocked out of the race in the early stages when seventh last Wednesday.

But in three recent Dapto wins Hoggards Corner has defeated Cosmical, Blinken Gone and Veloce Nero, who have won a total of 11 races at Wentworth Park.

None of Hoggards Corner's rivals tonight has been successful at headquarters and while Spy Secrets was a good third at her only Wentworth Park outing, she has drawn poorly in box seven.

Wednesday's Goulburn To Wenty Final features greyhounds which qualified in 440m heats on March 27, so most of the finalists are new to 520m racing.

Fastest qualifier Hear The Drums, who led throughout to win his heat in 24.84, showed he can handle the extra distance with a handy Wentworth Park trial last week.

His in-form trainer Mick Clayton has won with each of his past eight starters, and expects Hear The Drums to lead throughout and make it nine straight tonight.

"I trialled him at Wenty last week and he clocked a respectable 30.34 for the 520m on a track which was not particularly fast,'' Clayton said.

"Hear The Drums recorded a nippy first split of 5.49 but what really pleased me was his good run home time of 12.05.''

Trainer Simon Rhodes believes Dyna Orenthal only has to begin cleanly to go close to winning Wednesday's fifth race, a 520m fourth grade.

Dyna Orenthal has contested top grade races at his past four Wentworth Park outings, finishing just behind the placegetters in fourth position on each occasion.

"This certainly looks easier than the races he has been in lately and he will be all the better four his fourth at Wentworth Park last week,'' Rhodes said.

"Dyna Orenthal's record of 11 wins from 38 starts is pretty good considering he has drawn middle boxes in 21 of those races.

"Box eight on Wednesday is not ideal but it is better than being in the centre as Dyna Orenthal will run in a straight line from the start to the first turn.''

Mister Fernando was a heavily backed favourite before finishing seventh at Wentworth Park on Saturday night but punters should ignore that flop when assessing tonight's ninth race, a 520m fifth grade.

Mister Fernando won three races in succession at Maitland before a luckless second at his Wentworth Park debut on March 23.

In that race he chased home Winsome Money, who proved the form by leading all the way to take out the Group 3 New Sensation at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.

Accordingly punters plunged on Mister Fernando but the greyhound stood flat-footed in the boxes and was a distinct last when the field hit the ground.

Connections thought highly enough of Uncle Donuts to take the dog to Melbourne for heats of the Group 2 Launching Pad at Sandown on March 15 and although the greyhound finished down the course he will find Wednesday's opening race much easier.

Uncle Donuts, who has box seven in this 520m fifth grade, has clocked 30.06 at Wentworth Park, far quicker than any of his rivals tonight.
