Sensational Night Ahead For Finn In Final

By Jeff Collerson

John Finn nominated Winsome Money, Veloce Nero and Blue Moon Rising for last Wednesday's heats of the Group 3 New Sensation and each won their way into Saturday night's Wentworth Park final in dashing style.

The Cranebrook trainer own Winsome Money, who led throughout in 30.15, while Dennis Donoghue heads the Dee & Pee Syndicate which bred and race Veloce Nero (30.16) and Blue Moon Rising (30.30).

Winsome Money will be favourite for the final after drawing box one, with wide runner Pure Project, in box two, set to "run cover'' for him in the charge to the first turn.

Denis Donoghue said: "John has done an amazing job with Winsome Money as early in his career the dog struggled to run 520 metres.

"He looks the one to beat in the final as while Veloce Nero is the quicker of my two finalists she has a poor box three draw.

"Blue Moon Rising has box six but although not badly positioned he will need luck in running.''

John Finn was also the former owner-trainer of Winsome Money's litter sister, Winsome Currency, who qualified for the final by winning her heat in the moderate time of 30.64.

"I recently bought Winsome Currency on behalf of my client Steve Mikosic for $10,000,'' trainer Ross Burton said.

"At the time I also wanted to buy Winsome Money but John would not sell him.''

Winsome Money's toughest rival looms as Blocker Tifia">Tifi">Tifia, who has box eight.

Blocker Tifia">Tifi">Tifia began fast from box two and led all the way in his heat, stopping the clock in the fastest time of 30.07.

"He has won eight of 18 races but his record should be even better,'' trainer CHRIS O'Brien said.

"Blocker Tifia">Tifi">Tifia used to cramp near the finish of his races but since overcoming that problem he has had five starts for four wins.

"He is raced by 10 mates of mine from the Wollongong area, including a butcher, publican, solicitor, retired businessman, post office agent and a council executive.

"We were friends of the late John Chapman and when he died I called a dog, Chappo, after him.

"Blocker Tifia">Tifi">Tifia's owners followed Chappo's racing career before asking me to buy them a greyhound.

"I bought Tifi for them for $3500 and she won eight races including three in a row at Wenty early in 2009.

"Then they raced Tifi's daughter Tifia">Tifia, who won the 2012 Group 3 Ladbrokes Magic Maiden in race record time, and she has become the mother of Blocker Tifia">Tifia.''

Ritza Millie retained her unbeaten record when she won her semi-final of the Ladbrokes Magic Maiden on Wednesday, winning in 30.47.

Ritza Millie had won her heat in 30.12 after winning performance trials at Wentworth Park in 30.09 and 30.10.

Fastest semi winner was Winlock Huddy in 30.28 while My Mate Fox scored in 30.53 and Nangar Jill was successful in 30.64.

"It's a long while since I've had such a good beginner as Ritza Millie and she is well drawn in box two in this Saturday night's final,'' trainer Mark Gatt said.

"While her semi win was her slowest time she did it on a wet track and had to come from behind.''

Most impressive semi winner was My Mate Fox, who was badly checked when disputing the first turn lead.

"Although he had box eight in his heat I was hoping for one or two in the final, but getting the eight again is next best,'' trainer Peter Barnes said.
