Winxette Hoping To Emulate The Mighty Mare

By Jeff Collerson

Winxette ran the race of her life when second at her Wentworth Park debut last Wednesday and trainer Ron Field is confident she can go one better tonight.

Winxette, beaten in a photo finish by Thomas Jay in a tougher race last week, has box five in race 10, a 520m fifth grade.

"She is first reserve for race five, the Ladbrokes Money Wire Final, but I hope she does not get a start in that because race 10 is far easier,'' trainer Field said.

"I like box five at Wenty for a greyhound like Winxette, who has plenty of early speed and runs in the middle of the track.

"Winxette pulled up well after last Wednesday's race and she clocked a nippy 16.03sec in a 274m trial up the straight at Appin on Saturday.

"That hit-out will have topped her up perfectly for Wentworth Park.''

Blazing Major has disappointed trainer Mark Gatt since coming from Victoria but gets his chance to open his NSW account in race one, a 520m fifth grade.

"His good Victorian form was on bigger tracks than Wentworth Park and since coming to Sydney Blazing Major has struggled to handle himself in full fields on tighter courses,'' Gatt said.

"But he is going well enough to win this race and trialled smartly at Richmond at his latest gallop.

"Box seven is not perfect but I believe Blazing Major can cope with the wide draw.''

Huxley, Kihael Road and Woodlands Drive look strong chances in their races on Wednesday but each greyhound's trainer has reservations about their outside boxes.

Huxley, who has won five of his past six starts on the provincial circuit, makes his Wentworth Park debut from box six in race eight, a 520m fifth grade.

"He wants an inside box so the draw is most disappointing,'' Steve Moran, whose wife Pauline trains Huxley, said.

Kim Hyde trains the talented Kihael Road, who has box six in race three, another 520m fifth grade.

Hyde's partner Michael Glasson said: "Although Kihael Road will go straight from the boxes to the first turn, he will want to get to the inside fence when he reaches the first bend.''

Woodlands Drive ran off the track from box one before winning his Ladbrokes Money Wire heat but trainer Charmaine Field is unhappy with her greyhound's box seven draw in the Final.

"Although he ran wide at the first turn before winning his heat, I would have preferred an inside box in the final,'' Field said.

"I don't know if Woodlands Drive has enough early speed to get around some of the speedy dogs drawn inside him.''

Good value tonight is Dyna Orenthal, who has box four in the feature event, a 520m Free-For-All.

Trainer Simon Rhodes was pleased with Dyna Orenthal's fourth in a stronger top grade race at Wentworth Park last Wednesday and the dog will relish having a vacant box on his right hand side this week.

Dyna Orenthal chased home Aston Duke, Beside The Truth and Zipping Clive last Wednesday, and Zipping Clive proved the form by winning at Wentworth Park three nights later in the fastest time of the meeting.

Tonight's safest wager should be Blue Moon Rising (box four, race nine) who is a well performed litter brother and kennelmate of last Saturday's brilliant Wentworth Park winners Poco Dorado and Two Times Twice.
