Nangar Jet Takes Off

He almost ran himself into the outside wall again but Nangar Jet still had the speed to win Monday’s Ladbrokes Cash In Stakes (307 metres) at Kennerson Park.

Nangar Jet ($2.70 favourite), trained by Orange’s Barry Coyte showed he still hasn’t learnt how to stay close to the rail but luckily he had built up a big enough lead in Monday’s sprint to avoid trouble.

Nangar Jet got out strongly, as expected, from box seven but had early competition from Opal King towards the inside.

Greyhounds Hartley Hobby and Wolf Taro ($9.30) made their presence felt along the rail as they caught the leaders on the turn for home.

Midway through the turn Hartley Hobby drifted wide and took Opal King and herself out of the running. That left Wolf Taro as the sole challenger to Nangar Jet over the final 100m.

Nangar Jet drifted within reaching distance of the outside wall and it gave Wolf Taro – who had stuck to the rail like glue – an opportunity to steal the win.

Coyte’s runner held on by half a length to make it two wins in a row.

Bonnie O’Reilly ($6.40) finished well to take third.

Nangar Jet is no stranger to running from out wide. “It’s just what he does. He nearly hit the 500m boxes at Dubbo and he got within a foot of them here. I strapped his wrist because I thought that might bring him in but it hasn’t,” Coyte said.

“I’ll try and over the 400m in a couple of weeks. He had a bad shoulder, so I had to give him a week off and he was back at 300m today.

Hopefully, he’ll come around the turn a bit better.”
