Vale George Singline

By James Preston

Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) wishes to pay their respects to George Singline, his family and friends after the 94-year-old passed away on January 31, 2018.

Born February 5, 1923, George was just five days shy of his 95th birthday.

George was a well-respected figure within the industry having trained and owned greyhounds for more than 60 years, with 40 of his years spent as a well-renowned greyhound educator. As part of his dedication to training and education, George ran a trial track at North Wyong, where he educated thousands of greyhounds over the years.

One of thirteen children, George was a devoted husband to wife Joan for 67 years, and as a team, they trained a number of top performers including Scot of Minmi who won the Group 1 1979 Vic Peters classic final.

“He was a true gentleman and an exceptionally hard worker. He was very highly respected in the greyhound community. He was a wonderful family man, and we will keep his memory with us always” said grandson Scott Eaton.

GRNSW chief steward Wayne Billett shared Scott’s sentiments; "George was a legend of the racing industry, an absolute gentleman, a pioneer and leaves a great legacy through his daughters and all of his family."

George was laid to rest yesterday and leaves behind an enormous legacy; he is the father of five girls, the grandfather of fourteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren with a further two on the way.

GRNSW offers our thoughts and condolences to his lovely wife Joan, his daughters - Jenny, Lorraine, Rhonda, Noelene and Carole along with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends.
