Participant Disqualified For Welfare Breaches

By Greyhound Racing NSW

Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) has disqualified licensed participant David Duncan for three years after he admitted to two animal welfare rule breaches.

An inquiry was commenced after GRNSW investigators discovered evidence that a greyhound in Mr Duncan’s care had been euthanised in June this year.

On 17 August 2017 the GRNSW Inquiry Panel charged Mr Duncan with two offences under the GRNSW Greyhound Racing Rules relating to a failure to exercise reasonable care and supervision as was necessary to prevent a greyhound in his care or custody from being subjected to unnecessary pain or suffering as well as failing to provide veterinary attention when necessary.

After Mr Duncan admitted to the charges and having considered all the evidence before the inquiry, including evidence from veterinary pathologist Dr Lydia Tong, the GRNSW Inquiry Panel disqualified Mr Duncan for three years and cancelled all his licences.

GRNSW urges anyone with information about welfare concerns within the NSW greyhound racing industry to contact the Greyhound Welfare and Integrity Hotline on 1800 680 174 or intelligence@grnsw.com.au

Mr Duncan has been notified about their rights of appeal.
