Red Rug Is The Key

By Jeff Collerson

Punters who like backing greyhounds drawn in box one could have a field night at Wentworth Park on Saturday night with at least four greyhounds set to carry the red rug to victory.

Audi Key, Belle's Chorus, Infrared Ethics and Mack Tux are all drawn in box one and look primed to win.

Lindsay Davis, trainer of Audi Key – who will compete in the 5th grade Ladbrokes Cash Out Stakes (race one, 520m) – said the start on Saturday night will be crucial.

“It all depends on how he begins on Saturday because if he jumps cleanly and can get out where he likes to race he should be hard to beat,” Davis said.

Belle’s Chorus, meanwhile, will line up in the 5th grade Ladbrokes Cash In Stakes (race five, 520m).

“(Belle’s Chorus) is desperate for box one,” the greyhound’s trainer Ron Bell said.

“She has not had it before but has won from three, four and five and is racing well at present.

“Belle's Chorus finished third, from box six, at her only Wentworth Park race in late September, but she went into that race without having previously seen the track.

“She should be a lot better for that experience and I expect her to be hard to toss.”

Infrared Ethics has won two of his four races from box eight but reverts to box one in the 5th grade wentworthpark.com.au Stakes (race six, 520m).

“(Despite his record from box eight) Infrared Ethics is 100 per cent better off in box one,” trainer David Smith said.

“He had to have stitches in his foot after finishing sixth at Nowra on October 30 and I was very happy with his third placing from box eight there on Monday.

“His danger on Saturday could be Gattlin Sun, who ran a great race when second in fast time at Gosford on Tuesday night.”

Mack Tux was badly checked when prominent in the early stages at his most recent Wentworth Park outing and the shift from box five to box one on Saturday could put him back in the winner's circle in the free-for-all WP on Facebook Stakes (race eight, 520m).

The Bruce King-trained front-runner has won five of his 12 starts from boxes one and two and with wide runner Effective Comet drawn alongside him in box two, Mack Tux should be able to lead around the first turn.

Hardest for Mack Tux to beat look to be Riley Tokaam, a slow starter with a powerful finish, and Royal Turbo, another greyhound who usually makes the early pace.

Riley Tokaam is well drawn out wide in box six but his lack of zip to the first turn often finds him back in the field entering the back straight.

Royal Turbo led throughout from box six at Wentworth Park last week but with four speedy greyhounds drawn inside him on Saturday he will need to begin brilliantly to reach the early lead.
