Ideal Draw For Goodwin Terry

By Jeff Collerson

Goodwin Terry has won six of his nine outings when drawn in box eight but trainer Bryan Young insists he is far better suited on the rails so is thrilled his greyhound has box one at Wentworth Park tonight.

Goodwin Terry will wear the red rug in the 5th grade Ladbrokes Info Hub Heat (race seven, 520m).

"The last time Goodwin Teddy had box one was 33 races back when he won at Maitland on March 2,'' Young said.

"He has a good record from all boxes and has won from every draw except box six, but his six wins from box eight have been in spite of the wide draw, not because of it.

"Goodwin Teddy is going as well as ever and two runs ago at Wentworth Park ran a great second from box eight in fast time.

"All he has to do on Wednesday is to get a safe passage going through the first turn and catching pen, and he should be hard to beat.''

Goodwin Terry was runner-up in top grade at Wentworth Park on September 20 so looks extremely well placed in Wednesday's fifth grade event.

As a winner of 10 races at headquarters and nearly $78,000 in stakes, he is clearly the best performed runner in this week's race.

King Carmody has not started at Wentworth Park for six weeks but trainer Jodie Lagogiane says her greyhound will be at his peak for the 4/5th grade wentworthpark.com.au Stakes (race five, 520m).

King Carmody, with three victories in town, is the most successful Wentworth Park greyhound in this race and Lagogiane said he is going "as well as ever.''

She said: "I took him away from Wenty for a while because I thought he was down a bit in confidence.

"Since his last race in the city he has had a start at Richmond and several trials on provincial tracks where he has gone really well.''

King Carmody has box four but is a smart beginner with good early pace and with a clean getaway should be able to lead around the crucial first turn.

Off The Leash, a litter brother to outstanding country sprinter Little Digger, makes his keenly anticipated Wentworth Park debut in tonight's 5th grade @wpgreys On Twitter Stakes (race four, 520m).

Off The Leash has had three wins and four placings from eight provincial races but his record would be more impressive had he exited more inside boxes.

"This dog is mad for the rails but he has had a lot of outside boxes lately,'' Ken Burnett, whose partner Mandy Brunton, said.

"We are very happy to see Off The Leash in box three because the closer to the fence he draws, the better he likes it.

"All his runs have been terrific and while Tornado Tears made him look second rate when he beat Off The Leash at Richmond on November 3, that was a better effort than it looks on paper.

"We think Tornado Tears is a superstar in the making so to get run down by a dog of his calibre was no disgrace.

"Off The Leash is owned by a syndicate of four who have never previously raced a greyhound and he has a good chance of giving them a Wenty winner with their first starter at headquarters.

"Off The Leash is very strong and while he has not raced at Wentworth Park before we are confident he will handle the track well.''

Little Digger, Off The Leash's brother, will be all the rage when he targets his fifth win in seven starts in the 4/5th grade Dubbo To Wentworth Park Final (race two, 520m) while Zagati, from the same litter, is tipped to win  the 5th grade Ladbrokes Info Hub Stakes Heat (race six, 520m).
