This year's Goulburn Workers Club Cup is set to be the most keenly contested on record with top local trainers Jodie Lord, Denice Warren and Neil Staines and last year's winner, Sydney trainer Jason Magri, to nominate some outstanding sprinters.
Heats of the 440m Cup will be run on November 14 with the $15,000 to the winner final a week later.
Clock's Ticking won the 2016 Cup for trainer Jason Magri and he will have a potentially stronger contingent this year, with Tristan Cannon, Wicked Warrior, Bad Boy Joe and Pabs likely starters.
Tristan Cannon has won five of seven starts since joining Magri's kennels from Queensland while Wicked Warrior has won 10 races at Wentworth Park.
"It takes a true early speed greyhound to win the Goulburn Cup,'' top local trainer Denice Warren said.
"My husband Errol's dog Willie Blues is in great form and ran down Central Bark to win at Goulburn last week but I'm not sure he has enough early brilliance to win it.
"Quoted Dynasty, who has won 17 of his 26 races, including two from three at Goulburn, is probably a more realistic prospect for me.
"I will also be nominating Something New and Silent Sonny, who both have good early speed.
"I race at Goulburn a lot but have not won the Cup.''
Also chasing his first Goulburn Cup will be Yass-based Neil Staines, who is likely to be represented by Slamming Thunder, Tullabung Gowdy and the pacy Real Simple.
"Slamming Thunder loves the Goulburn track so he is my best chance,'' Staines said.
"I won the 350m Fireball Cup, which is worth $5000 to the winner and is held on Goulburn Cup final day, with Spiders Brothers in 2015 and 2016, but I haven't won the big one.''
Jodie Lord is planning to nominate up to 10 greyhounds, including her Canberra Cup winner Champion Model and Corrupt Millions, who trialled brilliantly over the 440m Cup journey at Goulburn last week.
