First-up Success At Wentworth Park For Brewer

Bella's Queen, sidelined for nearly 11 months after winning on debut at Potts Park, last Wednesday night gave her 23-year-old co-trainer Ricky Brewer a Wentworth Park winner with his first starter at the track.

Bella's Queen, who had given Ricky and his father Ross a TAB track success at Richmond on October 13, drove along the rails to lead at the first turn before easily winning a 520m fifth grade event.

"I work fulltime as a roof plumber so my dad and my wife Caitlyn share the training duties with me, making it a real family affair,'' Ricky Brewer said.

"Bella's Queen won first-up on October 8, 2016, but was unable to race again until late August this year.

"When we began trialling her after that long break she was not showing much promise but gradually improved and when she clocked 25.49 in a post-to-post slip at Wentworth Park last week we knew she was ready to run a big race in town.''

Bella's Queen is part-owned by Rhonda Vescos of Matraville, who, along with husband Jimmy, is among the most successful pigeon racing participants in NSW.

Brushed shocked trainer Ryan Tredway with a dashing front-running display to win a 400m maiden at Maitland on Thursday in a smart 22.49.

Having only his second start since July, Brushed scored by four lengths after being sent out at double figure odds.

"He had trialled 23.30 at Maitland so while the track must have been slow on trial day and it was 'on fire' last Thursday I couldn't believe he improved so much.

"I had a good opinion of Brushed early in his career, expecting him to be a 500 metre dog, but he went off the boil.''

Tredway's best greyhound was Kicking Rocks, whose 10 wins from 38 starts in 2014 and 2015 included two fast victories at Wentworth Park.

"Kicking Rocks lives on my lounge now,'' Tredway said.
