Greyhounds As Pets Adoption Day

By Greyhound Racing NSW

The last Greyhounds As Pets adoption day for 2017 will take place at Petbarn PENRITH, Saturday, November 11.

Those interested in potentially adopting a greyhound as a pet, or who simply wants to find out more about greyhounds, are encouraged to get down to the adoption day and discover what a wonderful breed they are.

There will be 20 greyhounds available for adoption on the day as well as the chance for people to interact with the greyhounds who are currently in the Greyhounds As Pets program. Expert information will also be available to help people find out whether greyhounds are the ideal pet for them.

The Greyhounds As Pets program involves an extensive process that aims to accurately match the right greyhound with their new family.

All greyhounds that are adopted through Greyhounds As Pets have been behaviourally assessed for suitability as a pet and have undergone a minimum six weeks of foster care. In addition to this, greyhounds coming through Greyhounds As Pets are vet-checked, vaccinated, microchipped, desexed, intestinally wormed, heart-wormed and lifetime registered with council.

Since 2014, 1187 greyhounds have been rehomed through the program. The most recent adoption day at Wentworth Park in Glebe resulted in 31 greyhounds being adopted by new owners.

Greyhounds As Pets is a not-for-profit initiative coordinated by Greyhound Racing NSW which aims to provide families and individuals with a pet that suits their situation, while giving those greyhounds who are not suitable for racing or who have retired from racing a new home. Greyhounds As Pets is also dedicated to assisting adopters manage a greyhound’s successful transition into a pet environment.

The Greyhound As Pets adoption day will take place at Petbarn PENRITH, 1/117 Coreen Avenue, PENRITH between 10am and 2pm on Saturday, November 11.
