Wentworth Park fans will get their first glimpse of provincial star Ben Hur on Wednesday night.
The George Borg-trained speedster took his record to six wins from nine starts when he won a heat of the Dapto To Wenty Series over 520m on Thursday night.
Noteworthy for his pace from the starting boxes, Ben Hur was cramped for room in the run to the first turn but displayed great tenacity to lead with a lap to go. He held on solidly to win comfortably in a slick 30.17.
“Originally I planned to start him in last Saturday night's heats of the Group 1 Ladbrokes Vic Peters Classic at Wenty but I had a re-think and decided to aim for smaller fish at this stage,” Borg said.
“Ben Hur has been absolutely flying in trials up the straight but I am still not 100 per cent convinced of his strength at the end of 520 metres. Wenty will be a good test for him.”
