Lord Jack On Target For Bell

By Jeff Collerson

Lord Jack's fourth in a tough race from an unsuitable draw on Saturday was a good pointer to the Ron Bell-trained greyhound's chances at Wentworth Park tonight.

Lord Jack exited box eight when fourth to the flying Kingsbrae Cheeko at Wentworth Park on Saturday but on Wednesday moves to his favourite box one position in the 4th grade @wpgrey on Twitter Stakes (race six, 520m).

On Saturday Lord Jack bungled the start and was hampered while attempting to reach the rails, coming from last to beat all but the placegetters.

Lord Jack is a rails draw specialist and has won four of his six outings while wearing the red rug.

"After Lord Jack raced at Wenty on September 2 he needed to have a corn removed from the pad on his foot,'' the greyhound's trainer Ron Bell said.

"He went nicely in a short hit-out at LADBROKES GARDENS on September 26 but was still a bit fresh when he raced last Saturday night.

"That should have topped him off nicely for Wednesday's race.''

Dale's Jet was desperately unlucky when second in Real Simple's fastest heat and the consistent sprinter gets his chance to open his Wentworth Park account in the Canberra To Wentworth Park Final (race two, 520m).

In the 530m heats at Canberra on September 24, Real Simple led throughout from box one while Dale's Jet was checked in the run to the first turn after coming from box eight.

Tonight's final sees Real Simple in box four with Dale's Jet drawn in three.

"I wanted my greyhound to be drawn inside Real Simple so I'm very happy,'' Dale's Jet's trainer Stuart Hazlett said.

"And while it might sound strange I was keen to get box three rather than box one.

"Dale's Jet likes to run in the centre of the track so would not have been so well suited in box one.

"He is no world beater but is a good little trier and has been placed five times at Wenty so deserves to win one in town.''

Dale's Jet's toughest rival looms as Bravo Izmir, who lacks early pace but who is well boxed in two.

Bravo Izmir is the only Wentworth Park winner in the field and has scored a win and six placings from a dozen starts at headquarters.

He chased home Real Simple and Dale's Jet in the Canberra heats but got a long way out of his ground from box seven and should be closer to the pacemakers from his better draw on Wednesday.

Best bet should be Lochinvar Hugo, chasing his 15th win in 24 starts in the 5th grade Ladbrokes Info Hub Stakes (race five, 520m)

Lochinvar Hugo has box one and although he likes to use a bit of the track his record wearing the red livery is a flawless four wins from four starts.

The Robert Smith-trained greyhound has won his past six starts and from his latest 11 outings has registered nine wins and two seconds.

"After his latest win, over 565m at Maitland, someone asked Robert when he was going to step Lochinvar Hugo up in a distance," Lochinvar Hugo's owner Kevin Gordon said.

"No wonder Robert replied 'why, don't you think he is going any good in sprints?'''
