Kong Chasing Hat-trick At Wentworth Park

By Jeff Collerson

Kong's runaway wins in sizzling times at the past two Wentworth Park Saturday meetings have set the track alight and the giant greyhound is boxed to complete the hat-trick tonight.

Kong has drawn two in the free-for-all Follow Us On Facebook Stakes (race eight, 520) and while he faces his toughest opposition from  Watch The Wasp he is positioned to continue on his winning way.

The Cheryl Murray-trained Kong came from boxes seven and four to win in 29.90 at Wentworth Park on September 16 and last Saturday, with each run clearly fastest 520m time of the night.

"I far prefer Kong being drawn on the inside than the outside of the track,'' Murray said.

"When he began racing at Wentworth Park he lost races after getting bumped early and being thrown out of stride.

"He is such a big dog he looked uncomfortable when that happened but he has looked much more at ease lately.''

Mister Twister, a Group 1 winner, was awkwardly drawn in box five for the same race but has been scratched from the Event

Watch The Wasp, who won the Group 2 Bob Payne Spring Sprint on September 9 from box two, has box one on Saturday.

But trainer Dean Swain has always indicated his preference for seeing Watch The Wasp, who tends to be a slow beginner, drawn wide.

In other action at Wentworth Park tonight, the outside box is made to order for Returned Hero, who will wear the pink rug in the Ladbrokes Cash Out Final (race six, 520m).

The Beverley Mahoney-trained Returned Hero raced wide when leading throughout in his heat at Wentworth Park on September 20, coming from box five and stopping the clock at 30.11.

He goes into the final as the fastest qualifier and Mahoney and husband DENIS, who handles Returned Hero on race night, could not be happier.

"Before the heats we gave Returned Hero a trial up the straight at Appin and he recorded the fastest 274m time of the day,'' DENIS Mahoney said.

"We did that hoping that new experience would sharpen up Returned Hero's box manners.

"It seemed to work in the heats but he has not been trialled since as he is fit enough now.

"Returned Hero has been kept on the lead because we need him to be nice and fresh and ready to show early dash in the final.''

The rails draw coupled with a drop in class makes Paua To Rush, engaged in the Ladbrokes Multimaker Stakes (race one, 520m), look the bet of the night.

The JODIE Lagogiane-trained dog has won three races from box one and will wear the red rug tonight.

Paua To Rush had box two when second, beaten in a photo finish, in a 4/5th grade at Wentworth Park last Saturday night, but meets only 5th grade rivals this week.

At his most recent start from box one Paua To Rush won in smart time at Richmond on September 8 and he drew the rails when a good fourth in a top grade Wentworth Park Event on August 30.
