Aussie Infrared, robbed through injury of what looked a second-to-none chance of victory in the Group 2 Bendigo Cup in July, is now on target for the Goulburn Cup in November.
Trained in Victoria by Rosalyn Hume, Aussie Infrared is raced by his breeder Michael Eberand.
The greyhound made his Goulburn debut last Tuesday and despite having not previously seen the track, rocketed over the 350m trip in 19.71, which compared well with Paua To Roar's track record of 19.45, set in May, 2014.
“If it had not been blowing a gale at Goulburn on Tuesday Aussie Infrared might have broken the record,” Eberand said.
“The dog has now won 22 of 36 starts, including his past nine in succession. When he raced at Goulburn Aussie Infrared was having his first start since tearing chest muscles while winning a heat of the Bendigo Cup on July 2.
“He drew box one in the $47,000 to the winner final but had to be scratched because of the setback and the first reserve, Landmark, took his place in the field and won the event.
“Rosalyn used last Tuesday's race as a trial to prepare Aussie Infrared for the Goulburn Cup heats on November 14.”

Champion sprinter Falcon's Fury has commenced trialling after being sidelined since May 27 with injury.
The Paul Braddon-trained greyhound is expected to make a successful return and enhance his record of 19 wins from 29 starts.
Meanwhile Falcon's Fury's kennelmate Marbo's Magic last Monday broke the Bathurst 307m record with a 25.38 performance, his 26th success from 43 outings.

Dubbo trainer Graeme Smith landed his third winning double on western districts tracks in less than a month when Tony Taro and El Taro won at Bathurst on Monday.
Smith had registered a double with Queen Taro and Tony Taro at Bathurst on August 28 and won two races at the September 11 Dubbo meeting with Queen Taro and Jaymz Taro.
“This year is certainly looking a lot brighter than 2016 when the house my mother Wendy and I occupy at Dubbo burned down in November,” Smith said.
“We are currently renting in town but hope to move into our new house in a month or two.
"I am training my present team for Jeanette Foley, of Geurie, who had to undergo a hip replacement and was unable to exercise her greyhounds.”

Sydney born and bred Little Mother was last weekend inducted into the NEW ZEALAND Greyhound Racing Hall Of Fame.
Little Mother began her career here but was soon sent to NEW ZEALAND by owners Barbara Spackman and Gordon Sciberras.
Trained by Lisa Ahern, Little Mother scored 85 wins and ran 27 placings in 132 starts, earning $378,000 in stakes.
Her roster of wins included five Group 1 successes, comprising two Auckland Cups, a NEW ZEALAND Cup, NEW ZEALAND Oaks and a Waterloo Cup.
