Goulburn’s greyhound meeting will have a celebrity feel to it, with Group 2 winner Aussie Infrared making his long awaited return to the race track this afternoon.
Today's meeting is classified as a TAB B meeting, meaning higher prizemoney levels for each of the 11 races on the program, and the extra money on offer has guaranteed some top class greyhounds will take part.
Headlining the fields is Aussie Infrared, who will line up in race nine – the 4/5th grade Greyhound Recorder Stakes (350m) – in what will be his first start at Goulburn.
The Rosalyn Hume-trained greyhound is one of the best sprinters in Australia having won 21 races from 35 starts and close to $100,000 in prizemoney.
Aussie Infrared’s career highlight to date came in March, when he took out the Group 2 Maitland Gold Cup. That win was part of an, as yet, unbroken eight race winning streak, which was only halted after the greyhound was injured in July.
Now recovered from the injury, Aussie Infrared will look to continue his winning streak in which he will jump from box seven, which is a suitable draw for the wide runner.
While Aussie Infrared will be a very short-priced favourite and should win if anywhere near his best, he should be kept honest by the ever-consistent Hardaway Highway, who jumps from box two.
Trained by Ron Marsden, Hardway Highway has won five of his last six and if Aussie Infrared is to strike any interference, will no doubt be the one to take advantage.
Goulburn’s meeting also features four heats of the Palmerbet Goulburn to Bulli heats (440m).
Headlining the heats is the Donna Campbell-trained Time Lee Money who competes in the third heat (race seven), jumping from box six.
Time Lee Money was a nice winner at Goulburn last week, winning over the 440m in 24.64, which was the best time of the meeting for that distance.
Another greyhound to watch out for in the Goulburn to Bulli heats is the Subawa Ngurah-trained Nino De Oro, who jumps from box four in the second heat (race six).
Nino De Oro has won three races in a row and won at Goulburn at her race debut. If she can overcome the slightly awkward draw, she should definitely qualifying for the series final which will take place at Bulli on 30 September.
