Kingsbrae Cheeko Vic Peters Bound

By Jeff Collerson

Kingsbrae Cheeko will be set for the Group 1 Ladbrokes Vic Peters Classic at Wentworth Park next month following his sensational win at Wentworth Park last Wednesday.

Bought by a syndicate for a reported $30,000 after he had won four of five starts at Casino and Lismore, Kingsbrae Cheeko has now won 11 of 16 races.

Sydney trainer Mark Gatt points out that Kingsbrae Cheeko is the perfect age for the Vic Peters, which is for greyhounds whelped on or after July 1, 2015.

Kingsbrae Cheeko, an August, 2015 whelping, recorded 29.64 winning at Wentworth Park last Wednesday, and only five greyhounds this year have won in faster time at headquarters.

Patch Adam recorded 29.55  in April, while Lucky Chap won in 29.56 and three greyhounds, Up Hill Jill, El Magnifico and Set To Storm stopped the clock at 29.63 earlier this year.

The Vic Peters series, which was first held in 1951 at Harold Park and transferred to Wentworth Park in 1987, is Sydney's longest established age classic.

Heats will be held on October 21 with semi-finals a week later and the $75,000 to the winner final on November 4.

Zambora Brockie set the race record of 29.58 in 2015 while Ando's Mac took out last year's final in 29.69.
