Meg's Marvel Primed For Break Through Win

By Jeff Collerson

A nippy 520m trial at Wentworth Park points to Meg's Marvel having a great chance of giving her owner-trainer Jim York his first city winner tonight.

Meg's Marvel, who has had five wins and five placings from a dozen races at the provincials, has box three in the Ladbrokes Odds Boost Stakes (520m) fifth grade.

Although Meg's Marvel has not started in a race at Wentworth Park, York trialled her there last week and was pleased with his greyhound's performance.

"She recorded 30.32 and according to clockers and other trainers who were at the course that was the third fastest time of the night,'' York said.

"I am happy with Meg's Marvel's box three draw because I like seeing her positioned close to the rails.

"She is not a fast beginner but is very strong at the finish and is a good railer.

"I'm hoping Meg's Marvel can get a trail along the inside fence behind a couple of the front runners when they go around the first corner.''

Blossom Belle, who has won 10 of 20 races on provincial tracks, should only need to begin cleanly to win the Ladbrokes Money Wire Stakes (520m) fourth grade.

Blossom Belle has won three of her six races while wearing the red rug and will exit the rails trap again this week.

Troy MacDonald, whose mother-in-law Lorraine Atchison trains the greyhound, said: "Blossom Belle is capable of jumping smartly and showing early speed.

"She also has strength at the end of 520m so from box one she should only have to come out well to go close to winning.''

At her most recent Wentworth Park outing on August 30, Blossom Belle was sent out a $2.60 favourite but had no luck before finishing fourth.

She began well enough from box four but was immediately crowded for room and after being fourth on the back straight, was severely checked when beginning to make a strong surge.

Jody Lee Kade's extensive Wentworth Park experience could give her the edge on her rivals in tonight's Gardens To Wentworth Park Final (520m).

Finalists qualified at LADBROKES GARDENS on September 1 where Jody Lee Kade was a strong finishing second behind fastest heat winner Scary Mary, who clocked 29.94.

But while Scary Mary is unraced at Wentworth Park, Jody Lee Kade has had eight starts at headquarters for five placings.

Jody Lee Kade has won two of her five starts from box three and will wear the white rug.

Her toughest rival looms as Greysynd Hope, who won her heat in 30.18 but who lost all chance at her most recent Wentworth Park outing on August 23 by veering off the track at the first turn.

Despite losing ground at that point, Greysynd Hope ran on well to beat all but the placegetters in the race won by Chunky But Hunky.

Greysynd Hope has box one in the final and handled the inside trap reasonably well when leading virtually all the way in her LADBROKES GARDENS heat.

Charlm Magic, early fancy from box three for the tab.com.au Stakes, is an extremely wide runner who should give Kylin and Tina's Magic, in boxes one and two, a dream run in the early stages.
